The Wii U was shocking in the worst of ways for me. I hesitate to call it Nintendo's worst console as things like the virtual boy existed.
First and least importantly its graphics pale in comparison to the ps4 and xbone, so whenever it tries to run something like Xenoblade it chugs horribly. It's game library is less than impressive. Not even boasting a Zelda to its name as the NX is doing a dual launch now. Nintendo's marketing team are foul as usual and purposefully don't make many copies of their games. Don't believe the fan boys it isn't because they are quality products, its just to keep the value from going down. It's insidious and shitty.
The reason I would argue the Wii U is awful is that the tablet controller is irreplaceable. So if it breaks you are out of options. Nintendo put on a smiling child friendly face but they really just don't give a fuck. I know this isn't news that a company want to make money, but making your product so easily ruined is more than aggressive buisness its stupid.
The Wii U deserved all the bad sales.
It's a shame though as the very few games I did play were great. Bayonetta the game I bought the damn thing for was brilliant. Xenoblade chronicles is a game like no other. Hyrule warriors was fun, Splatoon was far better than Destiny. And I'm at least hoping that Tokyo mirage sessions is at least a very good last gasp of life from the system.
The games I bought I actually liked. I just hated almost everything else about the system. What I'm trying to say is the Wii U was not worth the ?200 ($290) I paid for it.
I may think about getting an NX years from now but only if it has some good Zelda games. Which now seems unlikely as my wii u will be able to run the latest Zelda. A Bayonetta 3 would also tempt me.
