<3 all those quality new IP's on PS4 like Knack. lol
Ah, I see. So this is what your argument has been reduced to. Honestly, this is getting a little petty, so I think I'll drop out of this discussion here.

As it stands, I consider Bloodborne to have more value then all of Nintendo's IP put together. But then, I also understand that my opinion is subjective, and don't feel the need to get into an argument with six people over my favorite toy.

The Wii U is a damn fine console. I just find it sad that it has to cut its life time in half because no one bought it, and that those who got it early got a slap in the face. Hopefully Nintendo can get its act together. If they do, maybe I'll purchase their material again one day. If not, then, based on their recent offerings, I don't think we've lost much.

You are on gaming forums and you are complaining about arguing over your favorite console.

Anyway, the Wii U isn't the first console that Nintendo just dropped. If memory serves, they have always done that. I know that Wii support ended in 2011 with the release of Skyward Sword and that's only because the damn game spent 5 years in development. Pretty sure the rest of 2011 was pretty dry. The Gamecube, they took a Zelda game from the Gamecube to launch the Wii, that's like dropping the Gamecube in the extreme. I am pretty sure that is just how they have been from SNES onward.

Interestingly, they don't do this to their handhelds.

Nintendo Network and My Nintendo have no bearing on whether the NX will run Wii software. My precedent is that they have never gone back more than one generation for consoles. Further, when they do BC, they do it completely. Not playing Wii discs but playing Wii digital content won't happen, it's all or nothing.
yes they do. they show that Nintendo is clearly making steps forward in unifying all of their systems including all the mobile phone market stuff now.

the Wii U eshop is also 100 x better than the Wii shop channel was.

for what actual reason would they decide to make the NX eshop worse than the Wii U eshop?
I don't think you are understanding.

Wii VC games that were not ported to the Wii U eShop require Wii Mode to work. Wii mode plays all Wii software, including discs. Either NX will have a Wii mode or it won't. If it doesn't then those old Wii VC won't run.

Having a unified account doesn't change whether NX has a Wii mode or not just like having my games tied to my PSN account doesn't mean they work on the PS4.
ok then. well either upgrade all the digital software you only have in wii mode to the wii u eshop for that heavily discounted price on Wii U instead of buying it outright again on the NX eshop.

problem solved.
Uh no, you see most of the Wii VC games are simply not available on the Wii U eShop. Nintendo never bothered porting most of them. Also, I don't think they ported any of the WiiWare titles.
actually alot of them are. and lol. did anyone ACTUALLY even give a shit about those wiiware games anyway?
Alot of them are not too. Would it surprise you to know that we still don't have Mario Kart 64 on the Wii U? There is one WiiWare game I like, My Life as a King.
we have Mario 64 on our N64's, Wii's, DS's and even 3DS's now because of the DS's backwards compatibility.

god forbid we don't have it on our Wii U's as well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mario Kart 64 and I think you are missing the point. Why should I get an NX if there is no guarantee of backward compatibility for the games Nintendo never bothered to bring forward to the Wii U. You need to understand, the VC was the best part of the Wii and the Wii U for me.
even if they don't make all the old game backwards compatible on the NX system you could always just, oh i don't know, how about you just play your bloody older system that actually has those games on it instead?...
I am glad we agree that an NX is not a necessary purchase.
neither is buying videogames as a whole.

just sit there and stare at a blank tv screen and be miserable FFS.
Well, I don't think you have much of a future working for Nintendo as a marketer.
there's only so much marketing can do.

you remind me of this customer that came into my store over the christmas holidays and looked at a laptop and immediately said to me and my co-worker "what's the cheapest you can go on this laptop?"

me and my co worker just looked at each other and then replied to him, "mate, this laptop is already on special and has $1000 already taken off it's normal price and you want us to take MORE off for you???"
Great story but it has nothing to do with me. I am not interested in getting a deal on an NX, I am interested in learning whether it worth getting at all.
that's what i mean.

there's no point in even trying to sell it to someone as pessimistic as you just like there was no point in selling a laptop to one of the biggest cheapskates out there.

you're trying to nitpick at the smallest faults possible and actually LOOK for reasons not to buy the console FFS.

not directly, because the wii was the same way...

pretty much everything nintendo screams as "innovation" or touts as a feature, it's pretty much something I don't like or couldn't muster up even one fuck to give about. I've played enough of their flagship titles to know that the new ones don't offer anything I'm interested in, and their games lack pretty much everything I like in games.

also reflected in this, is their controllers, dear god did they get it right with the gamecube, but then they threw that away with the wii and wiiU, so I can only imagine the NX will be similar to that.

ps4 pretty much has the exclusives I'm interested in that aren't on pc, so nintendo is going to have to try 8 billion times harder if they want my money.
pretty much everything nintendo screams as "innovation" or touts as a feature,
and when they don't scream innovation no one gives a shit. like with Xenoblade for example...
it comes across like the kid who needs attention "look what I can do!" because he's a C student who is below average in pretty much everything in life.

Cool, but I have no interest in spending my money on it...like at all.

also you're referring to that game that had an artificial supply, hence they were selling for 90-100 dollars a pop for years, let alone if you could find one, and are just now getting back down to 65 bucks? That game?

yeah fuck that, Blizzactivision usually takes the cake on price gouging, but nintendo isn't far behind them when it comes to money.
Xenoblade Chronicles X came out december and there's still heaps of stock of it on the shelves......
you simply said "xenoblade" and I started off the with the wii in my original post, so I assumed you were referring to the first one...

but please, whatever makes you happy.
either way. people didn't give a shit about either of them and neither of them had control gimmicks as their focus.
er what? the artificial supply gouge is specifically what caused the prices to be crazy high for years, hence the "shit giving".

the wiiU has to be purchased with that stupid fucking tablet controller, I've used it tons of times and I still dislike it that it's a requirement package with the console, hence me even giving less of a shit about getting it than the wii. the games it has to offer are either party games (ones that I never need to buy) or have one or two exclusive single player games that I'm not vested in enough to consider buying a whole console for.
much cheaper than the other consoles.
still whinges because it has a controller he doesn't like included with the package despite not having to actually use it.
....and? I do maybe 2% of my gaming on consoles these days, my ps4 is pretty much a blu-ray/netflix/uncharted player until uncharted 4/kh3/ff15 and a couple more games come out, if I got a wiiU it would literally be a dust collector in my room. That goes double for the awful tablet controller that you are *required* to buy with the console, it's not even the fact that most games don't require its use, it's the fact that you have to buy/use it *at all*.

nice try on a very wrong assumption there, but I have never paid for online on a console, and there is nothing on the ps4 that I want for online play.

But it was a lovely deflection off my post, since you couldn't seem to actually come up with anything to refute what I had said, please continue.

Between the Wii and Wii U, there is little faith left.
so like i said. stop buying new consoles then.

just stare at a blank tv screen and be miserable instead. :D
You think that if one doesn't buy a new console, then they will have nothing to play?
you can keep playing mario 64 for millionth time if you like.

not directly, because the wii was the same way...

pretty much everything nintendo screams as "innovation" or touts as a feature, it's pretty much something I don't like or couldn't muster up even one fuck to give about.

That goes double for the awful tablet controller that you are *required* to buy with the console, it's not even the fact that most games don't require its use, it's the fact that you have to buy/use it *at all*.
i bet you enjoy paying that $50 every year that's required for your online gaming.

nice try on a very wrong assumption there, but I have never paid for online on a console, and there is nothing on the ps4 that I want for online play.

But it was a lovely deflection off my post, since you couldn't seem to actually come up with anything to refute what I had said, please continue.
your whinging about getting a controller you don't want included with a new console.

you may as well whinge about having to buy a new console just so you can play uncharted/kh3/ff15. why not ***** to sony for forcing you to upgrade your console instead of just releasing a lower res version on PS3?

after all your PS3 can already play both blu-rays and netflix. why do you even have a console again? you basically just admitted your Playstation 4 is really actually just a MovieStation 4 anyway since blu-rays and netflix are the main things you use it for.

It's funny seeing people wax nostalgically about things like the GameCube and N64 when these exact complaints were used about those consoles years back.
Are you saying 'other' people used to complain about the Gamecube and N64 back when they were released "years back"? Or, are you saying the 'same' people now complained about the previous consoles years back like they're complaining about the Wii U now?
I dunno, if was ~15 years ago. I'd just gotten my driver's license around the GameCube launch.
Ok, so is there a hypocrisy or not? People wax nostalgically for the classic consoles for different reasons you know.
I never said there was? I was just finding it funny to see games and consoles go from "0/10, too cartoony/not hardcore enough/only for casuals/doooooooooooomed" to "hey, remember what was great? That thing, that was a classic, genre-defining thing".

Old men have to find amusement where they can.
Hehehe! You put that in an amusing way.

You did write that way to indicate some hypocrisy though. And who knows, maybe there are some people that changed their tune over time.

The Gamecube and N64 were also praised a lot too, especially when the heavy hitters came out. However, I saw almost all consoles receive a good lashing one way or another back then. I think I only saw 2 that were never heavily criticised, those being the Play-station 2 and Dream Cast.

I bought a Wii U for Super Smash Bros., and basically nothing else. I have a few other games for when I have friends over, but there's literally nothing else on any consoles I want that isn't available on PC in higher quality. I'm am by no means a rich man, but I have enough disposable income and cheaper alternate hobbies that this is hardly regrettable for me.

And if the NX has some promising titles down the line and is somewhat backwards-compatable, sure, Nintendo may be the only console I'd support again.

The issue isn't the subject matter, it's the substance of the discussion. I think it's obvious now, though, that Yoshi isn't interested in having a real discussion. He's just pulling everyone's leg. Hell, he may not even be a Nintendo fan. There's no point in talking with him, so I'm moving on.

Maybe, but at least the Gamecube had a full life span. This feels a little bit more... problematic.

Gamecube was only the market for 5 years until the Wii came out in 2006.
meanwhile the Wii U will have been on the market just under 4 and a half years when the NX launches in 2017.

there isn't really that much difference between those timeframes...

Tell me, do you think it's acceptable to be putting out all these 2D games instead of 3D games this gen? A launch Mario game that is 2D, a 2.5D sequel to 3D Land that plays more like the 2D side scrollers than the real 3D Mario games, Yoshi, Kirby and Donkey Kong all get 2D games. No new Zelda game at all.

Acceptable to you? Nintendo's first HD console, loaded with 2D games, it's absurd.
While making a 3D game is a greater technical achievement, I don't think 3D games are better than 2D ones at all. I prefer metroid and zelda in 2D.

On topic: I have a PC. My interest in consoles is pretty much zero at the moment. Maybe the NX will blow me away with its features and games but I'm not holding my breath. I have played on the wii u of a friend and it didn't look like the worst thing ever so it's not that. It's just that I don't see why I need two machines that do basically the same thing, except one is also a PC.

Not just Nintendo either really. A good 4-6 years before snapping up some successor is generally what I've always been used to, it was only last generation that was absurdly long.

Well, the only Nintendo consoles I had were the Wii, Game Boy and DSi.

Wii was amazing at first, mainly because of Galaxy, Prime and Twilight princess. Mario Kart also coloured some lonely evening.

The problem with the WiiU is that there is no propper mario platformer, metroid nor zelda. The only title I'm interested in at the moment is Splatoon.

Another problem is how horrible Nintendo's service is in Eastern Europe. No amiibos, they don't even sell their consoles at retail anymore, you have to order everything from abroad. That and most of their support doesn't extend to Russia.

Yeah, I'm sticking with PC.

To answer the actual question:
No, the WiiU has not scared me of buying an NX console.

Something else has, and that is the fact that I read somewere it will be a "heavily smartphone implemented console" or something like that. I am no big user of a smart phone, mine is 4 years old, which might explain something, and might change if/when I get a new phone someday. But I have never used this little computer to its max potential, or even 5% of its potential, so those words are the thing scaring me most from this new console I yet know nothing about.

The WiiU for me has been an enjoyable console, so based on that I will continue with Nintendo.
But that is actually something I will decide when I have more info on the actual console I am about to buy.

I answered no to the poll, because truthfully the Wii U hasn't scared me off of buying one. BUT...Nintendo rushing it as quickly as possible has.
