I have been looking around lately and I have noticed that alot of things just seem stupid and ignorant. For example, people fucking up the term vampire and homophobia. Is it just me or is it just the cool thing to be ignorant? I seriously don't know anymore and just want to know what you thought about the world as a whole recently. ( I could go more into detail but then you would never hear the end of it. I just want a second opinion to see if I am the only one that thinks this. If you want details on what I think just ask. Oh and thank you for participating in my first thread)=)

People will always find ways to be stupid, whether intentional or not. That is one thing I have learned from my travels.

your poll should have the choice of "duh what" . just log on to any wow server around 3 pm and stand in a major city for 5 min. when wow first came out there were good ppl playing and the community was drastically different then it is now. back then stupid ppl on wow were say 1 in 10 now its 50 to 1. its like the stupidity took a rocket off the chart!

Why does X hate Y/Was (Insert War Here) Right/Gay Rights/(Insert Generic Hot Button Topic Here)/Generic Misanthropic Topic has been talked about to the point of redundancy. Do we really need to discuss it again? Why not find one of the many, many older topics on it already made in this forum to post your generic regurgitation of something we've already heard before reworded slightly differently in a poor attempt to sound intelligent on the subject?

How about you actually put forth some effort into being creative/interesting by making a topic on something new and unique?

The Peanut Gallery has spoken.

You know -

I just realized that this topic has been brought up to me by younger people three times now. So I'll say what I always say:

When I turned 16, I seemed to come to some divine realization that there are a lot of stupid, ignorant people out there. I thought to myself (at the time), "Man, are people getting dumber, or is it just me?"

The answer is that there's always a large number of stupid, ignorant people out there. As the population grows, so does their number because it's proportional. So in reality, no, they aren't getting more ignorant and stupid - they were already ignorant and stupid to begin with, and more of them just pop up every year.

You just starting noticing it more when your focus turns more outwardly as you get older.

Now, if you are referring to people who hold different opinions and ideals from you as "growing more stupid and ignorant," then you should probably understand they probably think the same of people who hold your ideals and opinions. No is the answer there as well.

My theory is that we're getting progressively more enlightened and educated, which ends up making us more aware of each others' ignorance and stupidity.

In a general sense, I'd say common people seem to have less of an attention span, but the people who actually are intelligent are always going to be smarter then the last generation.
On the ignorance side...Of course people aren't more ignorant. Do you see women being burned at the stake for witch craft? No. Are homosexuals murdered or tortured on sight? In rare cases maybe, but it isn't an every day thing. I think the culture of humans is how ever...getting alot darker.

*Runs away before anyone understands.*

Your profile says you are 16. Trust me, it's a little shocking but it will soon pass. Without being too patronizing, it fades when you inevitably realize your own personal ignorances. It's natural, and happens to everybody. Once you see more of the world and the people in it, the stupidity and failure that you are fed by the media is exposed for what it is... sensationalist drivvel. The world really isn't all that stupid, you're just exposed to the really stupid bits at the moment.

Please don't take offence, i speak from remembered empathy rather than moral loftiness.

I would say the general populous is in a constant slope of getting stupider while the genuinely intelligent people tend to have the unpopular opinion and as such cannot get into a political position in which they can make a difference. Let's take the recent election for example. Maybe not McCain, but let's just assume someone else in the preliminaries.

Bush screws up. people blame the war on Iraq COMPLETELY on him. Obama wants to SPEND BILLIONS OF DOLLARS TO ALMOST COMPLETELY REARRANGE THE AMERICAN REGIME IN A TIME OF FINANCIAL INSTABILITY. But he's a democrat, he's black, and he says change, so that means he's MUCH better than any other choices. *facepalm*

Which brings up the point, why is it that in politics one has to completely associate themselves with one political party to get anywhere? Why is it unreasonable to be pro choice and want a free market? Why is someone shunned by all if they are anti gun control but still think that religious crap should have nothing to do with government? Society sucks.

This would be the minority, which makes us more aware of the majority i.e. stupids.
I suppose the internet may be partially to blame for this. Now its not required you be able to take things you've learned in the past and put them in logic form. Now you can point to the internet (whether its wikipedia, google, youtube, or what have you) and say, "Yup, pretty much that." I also blame television, books made us think things through. Whether or not the information was believable or not was totally up to the reader and his thought processes. Now we have the information beamed into our skulls without giving it a second thought.

Okay, so america isn't the world, but its where most of the stupidity comes from.
I'm anti-american, and I think this statement is unfair.
