everyone is ignorant to some extent or another, well done for realising, but it is no better or worse than it has ever been, all you can be is your own pool of intelligent and zen calm ;) oh, and vote left wing, but that'd be me again...

The problem with the internet is that while it makes information more accessable, that information doesn't necessarily have to be correct information, but I suppose I agree.

I do disagree with that last bit, though. I don't think terrorism itself is more of a threat than what the Cold War could have become, but I'm willing to agree that it's a much more active threat.
I didn't mean the threat, per say, just the propergander. I mean, the cold war had so many right wing republicans spurting their heads off with paranoia. Most movies, and shows of the time were ripe with it too.

Yes. /thread.

I pray to god being ignorant and stupid is not becoming cool.
God hears you and denies your prayer. You can wait to re-apply in six to ten centuries.

No, we voted for a good president this time. That must mean we got smarter.
America != World.
But you knew that. Didn't you.
*squinty glare*

Anyway, maybe. Stupidity abounds, but it always has.
Okay, so america isn't the world, but its where most of the stupidity comes from.

I have been looking around lately and I have noticed that alot of things just seem stupid and ignorant. For example, people fucking up the term vampire and homophobia. Is it just me or is it just the cool thing to be ignorant? I seriously don't know anymore and just want to know what you thought about the world as a whole recently. ( I could go more into detail but then you would never hear the end of it. I just want a second opinion to see if I am the only one that thinks this. If you want details on what I think just ask. Oh and thank you for participating in my first thread)=)
Well there was the crusades, the fire of London, the Nazi Party of Germany, the Trojan Horse actually worked (what the hell), the Viatnam War... etc, etc.

Humanity is stupid and smart at the same time, we can't help it, it's what we do. But that won't stop me from hating it.

No, it's just more obvious now thanks to the Internet and other forms of media.

Pick up a history book. The stuff people used to believe and do back then was nuts, and I'm not just spewing a bunch of anti-religious hate. I mean, they actually thought BLEEDING YOURSELF was a good remedy for almost any sickness.

Granted, there are a couple of situations where that'd be beneficial (I'm thinking with a blood clot or something), but in most cases draining your blood while sick is a bad, bad idea.

Then there were all the human and infant sacrifices to appease harvest gods... Nothing on YouTube is stupid enough to equal that. I'm cool with letting people believe what they want and practicing religious freedom, but that stuff wasn't cool.

What, you mean throwing a married couple into a fire and pulling them out to eat the tasty bits just before they die in order to appease the gods isn't cool? What the flying fuck is this world coming to?

No joke, but every generation humans -as a whole- get stupider. It's scientific fact.

This isn't to say that people get stupider each generation per se, it just means stupid people are reproducing at a faster rate so...

We certainly are becoming stupider, it doesn't take a genius to watch Tv with all the "Famous for nothing" celebrities and The Hills and not loose faith in humanity

It's not all down to America, it's Britain too.

By 30, I will probably be out if the loop on what is new, old, smart and stupid. By 30 Ill probably be called stupid for being smart. (As if that isn't happening already...) Strange, I expected at least one person to say:
Short answer... no
Long answer nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Naw,It's just that 100 years ago we would be ignorant in the privacy of our own home, while today we can show the world how stupid/ignorant we are by making fools of ourselves on national television.

Of course it has! And I blame "Reality TV," it's the opiate of the masses.

Look at the guy above me... He believes that Bush was an awesome President. Recently the nations top historians ranked all of the US presidents to date, and he was considered to be the 6th WORST president this nation has ever had.

I agree that homophobia is bad, but with "fucking up the term vampire"? I have to say, I hope you aren't referring to what I think you're referring to, for two reasons...

1. Because that is the sort of thing to incite a flame war, even though you don't intend for that to occur.
2.Because I actually liked the thing in question...

Anyway, yes I think the world has gotten more stupid in recent years and it's down to the following things:

1. 'Dubya' and his stupid regime and policies, including the prolonging of the war in Iraq after Saddam Hussein was captured (until then I supported the war, but after that it became pointless).
2. Tony Blair, and latterly Gordon Brown, for the same reasons (yes, our government is just as bad as America's)
3. The EU (God, I hate them), for the whole 'single European state' policies and the Human Rights courts and policies that they've brought in (absolutely pointless, I reckon that a criminal should lose their human rights once they commit a crime, obviously that only refers to serious crime like murder or sexual abuse, not petty theft or speeding or whatever).
4. The lack of the death penalty (I may be a bit extreme with this to some people, but in my view it should only be considered if there is irrefutable evidence of guilt, and only for murder or worse). The UK needs to bring back capital punishment soon else we will sink so far that we can't ever rise again. And that isn't an exaggeration or anything, I'm deadly serious.
5. Abolishment of corporal punishment in schools. Kids today grow up with no discipline. I was smacked by my parents as a child when I was naughty and now I look back I realise that if they hadn't been so harsh then I would have grown up very differently, and very much worse, than I am today.
6. PC state. Political Correctness has gone wayyyyyyy too far (there was a thread on that the other day, I believe...).

My theory is that we're getting progressively more enlightened and educated, which ends up making us more aware of each others' ignorance and stupidity.
I agree.
