Mine rrod'd three weeks ago, after i had just finished playing force unleashed. Sent it in, got it back after just over one week. In total I have been boxless for less than 2 weeks. So, frowns to Microsoft for having it break down on me. Kudos for the swift repair, and not giving any hassle whatsoever. And i got a month of Live extra.

I don't see why one would join a lawsuit if they do not make even the slightest fuss (granted: by now) about replacing defective units. I also don't see how a recall would have been better; it would probably make a lot of people even angrier. This whole thing is already costing them tons of money, a class-action suit appears to me as cheap opportunism and a chance of free money. And if it isn't, and you are really somehow damaged (either economically or emotionally) by not having access to your machine for 2 weeks, it should be taken away permanently for your own protection.

Mine has not broken and it is a release 360...one of the first made. Crosses fingers...But the fan on mine is really loud and spins really fast and I think that helps keep it cool. I also never put it on carpets or tower it and I clean it out constantly.

My first Red Ringed about 6 months after I bought it. This one, I'm told, blew a chip somewhere. I've been too lazy to have it repaired, but Fable 2 is coming out soon...

Yes my elite just died 20 minutes ago. I guess a weekend long non-stop gamerfest didn't help it's life so much. I'm a sad panda now :(

It's failed thrice, but nothing a quick reboot fixed. I still don't know what really happened to it during those three times.

For the record it's a well ventilated area, kept away from any vibrations and has only been dropped once from a height of about 1 foot. As a general rule technology and me work well together... unless it's a watch. Bloody things can never keep the time around me (digital only lasts two days longer than the standard week).

EDIT: Oh, I should probably say mines the ancient one.

I had a minor issue with my old as hell 360, and since I decided I didn't want to wait forever to send it back to the states, and then come back out here, so I fixed it myself.

I've had mine since 2005 and I've never had any problems with it. I've had the thing overheat on me twice, but that's about it.

As a hardcore gaming platform for "real" gamers, yes it has.
As a consumer grade electronic entertainment toy made to cater to the "drunken frat boy" demographic? complete success.

P.S. idea for a "lord of the rings" X-box game "the red ring of death"
Is it cold up on your high horse?
what? the x-box is not made for serious "gamer" types. it was made for a certain demographic. the young "Partying" male. it is simple and full of fun action games. but does not have the family/new gimmick appeal of the wii or the versatility of the PlayStation or PC. it is simple to set up, no long installs, no wires to trip over when in a party. it was made for that demographic, and it succeeded at what it sent out to do.

except for the red ring of death. but maybe micro$oft meant to do that, they did the same thing with windows ME (shudder) and now with Media Player 11...
my objection was with your use of "real" gamer.

I've been gaming for 20 years. If I'm not a real gamer, you're not an ass.
He is an ass, and is kissing everyone else's ass except for Microsoft's rear end. The OP didn't ask for your opinion on what a "real" gamer is, he asked if your xbox failed. TROLL SOMEWHERE ELSE.
So wait, this Bright Raven's main argument is that the 360 is a party console (clearly thats the Wii) and this is because it doesnt suck? Here are his points "simple to set up, no long installs, no wires to trip over"... point proved the 360 "sucks". XD

My original Xbox got RROD sometime in 2007. I sent it in to eb repaired etc.

I got it back a few weeks later (which is BS by the way, why does it take 4 weeks when the actual repair is only 2 days long?), and it lasted a good 6 months before it got RROD again. The kicker? They had supposedly replaced my original 360 with one of the newer models that doesn't have the RROD problem. Yea, so much for that eh?

I am on my third technically. My first one started to go after a little over a year (it was one made around Sept. 07). No RROD but just he disc drive started going. Since Fable 2 and Fallout were coming at around the same time I opted to trade it in and get a refurbed one. I got to play that one once before it RROD on me. Luckily I got the warranty so I managed to get a brand new arcade and haven't had a problem since.
