Just a simple thing but keeping a regular routine really helps with depression. It stops you from sleeping in, and you know what to expect all day. Just keep it simple, eat the same thing , exercise at the same time. It really does help.

All the time unless I find something to preoccupy myself with. When I'm idle/bored I become depressed. :<

There is a difference in most cases of depression. Some are just unwavering feelings of boredom and hopelessness. These type still function normally for the most part.
The other type is more extreme, you can't get out of bed because it's pointless, you can't do ANYTHING because there just seems to be no purpose. This type incurs the most nasties like suicide and self harm/mutilation.

I was a second kind for over a year. I basically had to be physically forced to do anything, I dispised just about everything, and was basically a bitter cynical bastard. Also, these definitions are more observations than truths.

Clinically depressed? Probably not. Felt as if I was going to put a bullet in my head? Fuck yes.
Actually, just feeling extreme sadness for an extended period of time is clinical depression, even if it is induced by loss. 'Extended' means anything from a week to several years.

~EDIT~

O RITE THE OP WHOOPS

Yes. Ugh, it was awful. I was about to jump off a cliff when a person I knew committed suicide. Technically I was bipolar, but that sucks also.

Yes, quite severely (thoughts of ending it crossed my mind more than once over the years) and I'm not really sure if it's over yet, but I've definitely been worse than I am now.

What if you're both at once? Or in other words: me.

Of course I've been depressed; I was a teenager once too!

...but seriously, it happens. Get over it using music, videogames, chocolate or anything else that releases endorphins and makes you feel good about yourself.

This. It seems like it helps a lot if you understand why you feel the way you do when you're depressed. Everyone goes through depression at some point in their life and things do get better with time.

I am currently depressed ,and having the analytical mind that I have, I was wondering about the people who have had been as well and how they got through it. I am genuinely looking for help.
A few years of Psychology left me looking at my depression as another case.

It tends to go away because I get so interested in it that I stop feeling like complete and utter crap. However for a little bit it can be quite terrible.

I wouldn't say that I've been depressed in a serious state. I've had some really shitty days/weeks that kept me down, but I haven't been depressed for long periods of time.

I think it's because I'm still pretty young, and there's enough variety in my life to keep away the monotony and that keeps me busy enough to not think about how crap things might be.

Wow, these results are really surprising. I mean, everyone's been sad but isn't depression kind of serious. I am an unusually optimistic person but I thought it would at least be 50-50.

I dunno if it's depressed so much as meloncholy. I'm a legitimate sociopath, so I assume depression is another word for "bored out of my skull," & "feeling nostolgic," in the same way that stress is another word for "too lazy to do anything productive or responsible, but I have to" & "time limit." When I get into a funk, I have a few lists to pick from:

I've seen Better days:
------------------------
I listen to music/watched boxed sets of TV shows/movies/play video games from the early 90s; because those were the most awesome times for me.

Christ I'm bored:
------------------
If it's not nostalgia I'm after, I go online in search of never ending laughs, because lauging is the cure for depression; sites like Homestar Runner, Odd Todd, That Guy with the Glasses, the Escapist, Cinnamassacre, YouTube, Something Awful, Cracked, The Onion, Digg, Oddee, Fail Blog & it's sister sites, Engrish.com.

I need to keep preoccupied & zone out:
---------------------------------------
If I'm to "meh" for the lulz, I either reread a long book series, watch Discovery Networks, watch entire series or marathons of a dead actor, dig into some old comic books, or play really long-lasting time-consuming video games like Morrowind or Neverwinter Nights. I'f I'm online, I'll browse forums or go answer stuff on Yahoo Answers.

I need to get away for awhile:
--------------------------------
& if that still dosen;t work, I grab a friend or relative & go for a hike in the mountains or a walk on the shore. There's also the zoo & long drives through the countryside. If I have money, a shopping spree is always an option, or garage-sale-hunting.

I was depressed just recently. My ex girlfriend of 5 years, the girl I was planning to marry in a year, broke up with me not too long ago because she was developing feelings for another guy and we were growing apart. Then a week and a bit after we split, she was fucking that other guy.

I smoked alot of weed and drank alot of vodka the last month, but got over it by finally just flipping shit on my ex, yelling at her about everything all at once. Now it's out of my system and we are still good friends :)

One good thing about not giving a shit about much is that it's really hard for me to get depressed.
When I grow up, I want to be you... I'm always worrying about one thing or another.

I don't think I've ever been full-on depressed. I do get really, really bored sometimes though. I once considered leaving the house and seeing how far I coul walk in a straight line.

Hell yeah, I was clinically diagnosed with depression a long time ago. The drugs handled it for a while, but I eventually just quit taking them and dealt with it. I feel pretty balanced and normal now. I feel even less depressed now than I did when I was on the drugs. That may have something to do with the awesome girlfriend though.
