I voted yes. For about six years now, I have had chronic depression, it's rare that I'm not sad or pissed off.

find a escape. i find driving cars settles me, also listening to music. the gym also works as you get a endorphin rush. its just getting into a routine.
I remember i became really random for a while (ie. waiting at traffic lights, just wave at the person next to you.) made my life fun, people look at you funny for a while,
but you keep waving. Is awesome. I found don't drink, as it just delays the problem's solution. anyway, if u want to chat hit me up.

I completely agree, stop being a sad lonely loser and start being AWESOME!! Its easy, just turn the machine off and step outside into the real world. Now i know the light may scare some of you but you just need to grow some balls and get over it.
Then when you've made it that far, go find someone to talk to. Not someones avatar, a real living breathing person.
And once you've made some friends, go for a run and turn that fat into awesome so chicks will like you and want to hang out with you.
And then when your tired of being awesome and not depressed, you can take some time of and play a little bit of your favourite depressing games.

There, problem solved

I was depressed about five years ago. It got to the point where I was basically having hysterical seizures and suicidal thoughts, so got some counselling, got some good friends and went to college.

Now I'm very happy.

I am currently depressed ,and having the analytical mind that I have, I was wondering about the people who have had been as well and how they got through it. I am genuinely looking for help.
For me I needed a diet change, more exercise (altho thats more for my own good, helping the depression is a good byproduct) and change in sleep routine. Is already doing wonders. Oh an ofcourse seeing a councilor.

Okay you can stop shouting now... Just spoiler it if you need to do it.

I think people who are depressed tend to become more avid gamers and forum users so these results aren't that suprising. I agree that hiding behind avatars and endless escapism through gaming isn't good for you and such behaviour should be avoided if you are depressed. That however, doesn't justify such an ignorant rant.

And that stops us from knowing about our insignificance in the grand scheme how?

I have been for several years, but am slowly getting better. I'm off the meds and everything, very proud!

An overall healthier lifestyle, more exercise in particular and just try to socialize more (ventrilo and/or webcam talking doesn't count, you have to actually be in the same room). Those things do more than you think. Also just positive thinking, and staying active, whether it's at work or school. A regular sleeping schedule is also very important.

On a side note, I personally recommend getting into 80's metal... worked wonders for me to blast some Twisted Sister, Mötley Crüe, Guns 'n Roses, Ratt, Cinderella, Scorpions, Faster Pussycat and the like - I have no idea why, though =S

I've been down the pit and back, needless to say.

Then I found out I'd been lying to myself about quite a few things concerning myself, turned things around, almost back to new.

About it.
