The Best Friends Zaibatsu Let's Plays of Deadly Premonition and D4: Dark Dreams Don't Die convinced me to pick them up.

I use lets plays to judge the quality of a game as well as looking at reviews. I look at lets plays as a sort of "the most honest review you can find" sorta thing because most of the ones I actually pay attention to are mostly raw gameplay footage and less... well less screaming and shouting.
For me I generally stop paying attention to lets players that do the whole "play fart games and scream" faster than I stopped paying attention to my math teacher in high school. If I'm looking at a lets play I'm generally either looking for nearly raw gameplay footage(like I said last paragraph) or I'm looking to relax.

I bought:
Cities skylines
Snakebird
Age of Wonders 3
Cave Story+
Shadowrun Returns, I actually bought this after seeing a lets play of the SNES game
Freedom Planet
(these are the only ones I can think of off the top of my head but I'm certain there are more)

I voted "No", but then I remembered that there is actually 1 game I bought based on Lets Plays from the only Lets Player worth watching.
Thank you for Kerbal Space Program Robbaz.

Nope.

I like LP's; Gopher, SorcererDave, and currently Kay Play's [https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCu3T-57vLRVEjF8viOEjm9g/playlists] (the best Dark Souls/Souls LP's I've seen, by far). But generally I watch LP's for games I've already played (to see how someone I'm familiar with reacts to the same events/locations/puzzles/mechanics/etc), or, quite rarely, for games I won't likely ever get to play but want to see from start to finish for a variety of reasons (e.g. Demon's Souls, or the crapfest that was Beyond Two Souls).

Several games, I don't think I can name a ton of specifics because usually when I find a game I want to play I stop watching and buy it soon.

Resident Evil Revelations was a good one, RE was kinda getting wonky after 5...actually I got Resident Evil 6 because I found the PC version had a crazy ass horde mode that was worth it alone.
-Monster Hunter 4
-Dragonball Xenoverse
-Killing Floor
-Subnautica
-Warhammer Vermintide
-Shadow Run Returns through Hong Kong was sold on a single LP...hmm...
-Ys Memories of Celceta
-Shantae
-Sonic Lost World heard it was crap, LP showed it was fun
-The Evil Within, again heard it was crap, LP showed it was fun
-Payday 2, regretting that now
-Warhammer Space Marine

Honestly they're far more reliable than reviews, less chance of BS being behind them and you get to see the game as it is without bombastic music, everything being hyped up or just the good bits being shown

The Binding Of Isaac, thanks to watching Northernlion's Let's Plays of them.
More or less this, but replace Nothernlion with Utorak007.

OT: I got into DayZ through a variety of Youtubers and I think that's it. I did get back into FM because of DoctorBenjy recently though, so that could count.
To paraphrase this but replace Northernlion and Utorak007 with Tear of Grace, managed to convince me to get both Shadow of Mordor and the Binding of Isaac.

I can't remember buying a game because of watching a Let's Play, but I do remember one time a Let's Play made me play a game I had already bought.

After hearing good things about the original Mount and Blade in 2008 I picked it up. I started the game, played through the "tutorial" which is pretty much just showing you how to control your character, and was totally lost. Didn't get it at all. So I put the game down and never came back to it.

Then a few years later, I think around 2012, I watched a Let's Play where someone had a big army of Nordish troops, was in a battle with them, giving them orders, and it started to click what the game was about. I watched some more of the series, then went back to play it.

Between the original and Warband I've got well over 500 hours into the series and have enjoyed it quite a lot. I've since used Let's Play to help me decide if I want to buy a game, but I've yet to not even know about a game, watch a Let's Play, and then buy it. I think this is because I rarely watch Let's Plays of games I don't own.

I only ever watch let's plays of games that I've already played, so no. Reading reviews and people talking about games on forums are what get me to buy new games.

Just New Vegas(Spoiler Warning LP) so far. I'm interested in Blood Bowl 2(Crendorian Invitational) but I'm going to wait until it has expansions to give it as much content as the first game.

I don't know if TotalBiscuit's WTF is... videos count as Let's Plays but FTL, Sunless Sea, War for the Overworld, Giants: Citizen Kabuto, Warhammer 40k Space Marine and Luftrausers all found their way into my library after I saw his videos/reviews of those games. So... I guess kind of?
I don't usually watch Let's Play videos; there's very rarely enough time in my day to sit down and watch an entire series (and yes I know I don't have to watch the whole thing in one sitting). I'll typically make an exception if I hear that a console exclusive title has a legitimately good story to it and I'd like to watch someone with a console play it.

Yep, many times. Mostly with Jim Sterling. Last one was Undertale. I just needed to hear the music and it was enough.

Nope, because I get my jollies from watching Let's Plays of atrociously bad games (see: Game Grumps Sonic 06) and I've no intentions of buying things that make me laugh at people in agony.

I'm cautious with what I buy. If it right away doesn't look like something I would be into, then I won't buy it. Games are too expensive to drop cash willy-nilly at full price. LPs, reviews, and other commentary help me make an informed decision, and even help encourage me to play games I never thought I would ever enjoy.

Mind you, I usually watch full-LPs for games I've already played. I like to see people react to games I enjoy, and maybe I would learn something (like a secret, technique, or something in discussion).

I find LPs boring as hell, have never enjoyed watching other people play games. I'd rather read reviews and forums as it gets straight to the point.

Weirdly enough, he convinced me not to buy the game.

But he's sold me on games before. Not always for good games, mind....

Only ever once. Oh wait, twice. South park the stick of the wotnot was an unknown for me. I youtubed the game let's play and it gave me this person called "pewdepie." After 2 mins in i altered the search to "no commentary south park the stick of wotnot" ...and have been gleefully doing the same ever since. Oh the second one was Alien Isolation, a far more boring story.

Yes, I find 10-20 min gameplay videos with commentary (does that count?) infinitely more informative than classic reviews. If you meant 50+ part playthroughs, then fuck no.

I'm really out of the loop in regards to this Let's Play phenomenon, although apparently it's huge among the younger generation. From what I hear, just about everyone right under my younger brother's age (12-15) will spend just about all their time watching other people play video games. It's overtaken movies, tv, reading, and playing games in that demographic. I swear, there's around an 80% chance that when I look over to see what my brother's doing he's watching a Let's Play. Well, that might be an overexaggeration now, he still probably spends at least an hour a night watching or rewatching them though.

So much entertainment nowadays seems to be about getting a constant fix fed into you. Trying to bombard you constantly with new content so you'll never be bored. Tumblr, Twitter, Facebook and all those big sites are designed with exactly this mind.

Now that's out of my system, I'd appreciate it if you got off my lawn
