I personally haven't, but the news that a company and a teacher let their charges go for the day to play Portal 2 is interesting- Gamers being granted the same rights as religious groups perhaps? Gamer holidays? Or is that idea utterly absurd?

I'm fairly on the fence here, I think it's a bit much to call in sick, I'm more of an 'anticipation makes it more fun' person.. How about you?

Never did it while in college, nor have I missed work for it. I get that some people get excited (and trust me, I seriously considered doing it for Dead Space 2) and impatient at the notion of having to wait for something, but it's just not worth it (both financially and job security-wise).

As long as you aren't rambling around on teh Internetz or Youtube around launch, the game will still be "new" to you...at least that's what I think. I didn't include "friends", as I assume that most of the people on here have spoiler-conscious individuals as amigos, and not sadists.

Ive skipped school only once for a game and i believe it was New Vegas, in retrospect i could have taken my laptop to school and played but i was more comfortable at home. Fun times.

I have for work many times.

But I do work for myself so my boss was fine with it.

No for either work or school.
I have called in sick at school to sleep more.

Kind of. Here's my story:

One time I skipped school because I had something due in English that I hadn't even touched. If I didn't turn that in on time, I was fucked, so I decided to skip school. At the same time, only my parents knew the password to my computer, so I had to do something all day. I played Kingdom Hearts.

I don't know if it's the same thing, but back in '94 (I think), my mother picked my brother and me up from school to watch the first MLB game after the strike.

As far as skipping out of work for games, I saw someone getting some pretty severe punishment (I'm talking just short of Court Martial) for skipping work as a military programmer to play Shadowbane, so I try to avoid it.

Technically.

Ive, on a few occasions, switched work days with a coworker or otherwise arranged to have the day off for a release I've been REALLY looking forward to, maybe only one or two a year. This is also usually done months or weeks in advance, once I have a solid date. I also have skipped a few classes, but attendence has always been an onoff thing for me anyway and I do fine in my classes. So I guess what I'm trying to say is I haven't screwed anyone in order to play a game; even myself.

Well, yes and no.

I got sick once, but it wasn't so bad that I couldn't make it through the day.
Though I decided to stay home anyway to play this new game I got.

I once skipped school to play World of Warcraft.
But eh, I don't skip school for playing games, I skip it for lack of sleep...and then I'll play a game just because I have the chance. Don't think I've ever (apart from that one time) skipped it because of being excited for a game that I've just got, or anything...although I was pretty damn ecstatic after getting Pokémon White, I did want to stay off the week after getting it, but didn't!

I had been sick one weekend and whilst sat on the sofa I became addicted to Harvest Moon on the gamecube, I could have made it to work on monday (tho I was still a little ill) however I had to get to the end of the game so called in!

I haven't. I did legitimately fall ill on the release day of Halo 3: ODST though, which was annoying because I was unemployed at the time so there were redeeming benefits to my sickness.

Skipped class to play Devil May Cry 4.
After DMC3, I was expecting so much... But in the end, I was stylistically disappointed, but also very pleased with the gameplay.

Nope, I could never get away with it. I had to be practically at death's door to get any time off school. The last time I was properly ill was about 5 or 6 years ago and I managed to finish TR Chronicles after about a week of burning and attempting to sleep.

Kinda. Ditched the last class on a Wednesday after an hour off to play Sims on a public PC at a store.

Yeah, didn't even own the game :p
