We here at the escapist live in different countries and communities with varying levels of crime. Also each of us has different thoughts about our chances of being violently attacked and what we would do in such a situation. For the purpose of this poll I'm not interested whether your carrying of a weapon was/is legal or illegal. I'm referring to physical weapons only (guns, knives, pepper spray etc..) not martial arts, but feel free to mention any martial arts training in your post.

CHL holder, carry a .45 SpringfieldXD pistol

Also:

Ceramic SEAL knife
Hideaway Knife
Thai Kick Boxing training

My motto: if you're in a fair fight, you didn't prepare well enough.

Basically, this is just another form of insurance. I have auto insurance, but I don't expect to run into another car on the highway. I have health insurance, but I don't expect to end up in the hospital for weeks on end and run up huge bills. I have homeowners insurance, but I don't expect to have it burned down when I come home from work. Weapons are merely a form of insurance. Never had to use any of them and hope I never will, but I will not be caught with my pants down.

Criminals don't follow laws, so I can't expect some legislature or police force to be able to keep me safe. I'd rather be judged by 12 than be carried by 6.

What are you expecting, a Spec Ops team to attack you?!

I do not carry protection, because I do not leave my house. Simple as that.

I like you... friend request.

I always have at least two firearms, a machete and three knives with me at all times.

I like and agree with your mindset. I have a CHL for carrying my P99. I also have pepper spray.

I've never felt the need to carry any form of a weapon, even when I had the local redneck bully hunting after me with his brass knuckles. Way I looked at it, he doesn't kill me, I make him look like a pansy, I win. He does kill me, he goes to jail for half his life, I win. Yay me!

If I was expecting a SpecOps team to attack me I would bring along my fully spec'd AR-15, 10 30 round magazines and a few of my shooting friends.

What part of your country are you from and how in lords name do you even hope to conceal a machete?

Where I live was meant to be statistically the most dangerous place in Britain on multiple occasions, but I don't carry weapons, I'm learning Krav Maga.

My friend however decided carrying a screwdriver is a decent idea.

The problem with Britain is that for some odd reason, the criminal has all the rights and the guy he attacks is expected to just sit back and take it.

Do paintball weapons count?
in all seriousness, the closest I have ever come to even holding a real firearm or combat knife would have to be when a police officer let me hold one of his clips after one of my stupid classmates asked him if the police had to use rubber bullets to avoid killing people....

I live in Jersey City, NJ on the east coast US.
Conceiling it was a bit of a problem but nothing scares off an attacker like pulling a machete out your ass. :p
Seriously though, my trench coat.

Only a swiss army knife, I'll just run away if I get into trouble so I don't really need a weapon.

I don't carry a weapon because I'm less likely to use it for self defense and rather just outright kill the guy for saying "Oi, gimme your money".

now, I can accept that concealing it wuold be difficult, but seriously here. If you were attacked, how could you expect ot be able to safely pull a Machete OUT OF YOUR ASS in time to defend yourself, not to mention, how would you sit down with a large, bladed weapon up there?
