I have the ability to control pigeons with my mind... so let me ask you this, Do YOU think I need anything else?
Why are there the same amount of votes for "Always" as "Never"? Whats that about? Some seriously paranoid people out there, I mean the only thing you are ever going to need those weapons for will be other people like yourself attacking you... or maybe a dragon, but they dont exist so stop being ridiculous.

I always have at least two firearms, a machete and three knives with me at all times.
What part of your country are you from and how in lords name do you even hope to conceal a machete?

Where I live was meant to be statistically the most dangerous place in Britain on multiple occasions, but I don't carry weapons, I'm learning Krav Maga.

My friend however decided carrying a screwdriver is a decent idea.
I live in Jersey City, NJ on the east coast US.
Conceiling it was a bit of a problem but nothing scares off an attacker like pulling a machete out your ass. :p
Seriously though, my trench coat.
now, I can accept that concealing it wuold be difficult, but seriously here. If you were attacked, how could you expect ot be able to safely pull a Machete OUT OF YOUR ASS in time to defend yourself, not to mention, how would you sit down with a large, bladed weapon up there?
It's unlikely a primary, it's quicker and easier to get a firearm or a knife out. It would depend on distance between you and the attacker. A machete would be easy to get out if your attacker is at a good distance away, maybe 5 of the attacker's arm lengths. But the pistol would be a better choice. Still, it makes a decent backup weapon if the other guy has a knife and you're out of ammo (if you're out of ammo, you're probably not alive anymore). It's a good idea to have a better weapon than the other guy does.

Machetes also have good utility value, but this is for a survivalist or zombie apocalypse thread.

only a 3" foldable knife. I intend to get a conceal and carry permit to carry around my .44 mag.

It's always for me because it's just a habit. I put on pants every day without thinking about it and it isn't because I'm paranoid about people seeing my Superman boxer shorts. I don't even think about it, I put on pants, shirt, IWB holster, SpringfieldXD, slip the knife sheath for the SEAL knife on my belt under my shirt, hand the HideAway knife around my neck then head out the door.

As I said above, which is the philosophy held by the vast majority of martialists, it isn't because we go out afraid of the world or expecting trouble, it's there in the off-chance something may happen. The folks at VA-Tech would have loved to have me in their class when that nutjob burst in, they thought it could never happen to them, but it did.

1 in a million still has a 1 in it. I'm ready for the 1 but know that the other 999,999 is what will most likely happen.

I live in philidelphia is the explanation for this. anyone wants to poke a gun in my face, gets "Frosty" in the dick.
That "frosty" part makes it sound like you suck the person off with ice cubes in your mouth. XD

My motto: if you're in a fair fight, you didn't prepare well enough.

Basically, this is just another form of insurance. I have auto insurance, but I don't expect to run into another car on the highway. I have health insurance, but I don't expect to end up in the hospital for weeks on end and run up huge bills. I have homeowners insurance, but I don't expect to have it burned down when I come home from work. Weapons are merely a form of insurance. Never had to use any of them and hope I never will, but I will not be caught with my pants down.

Criminals don't follow laws, so I can't expect some legislature or police force to be able to keep me safe. I'd rather be judged by 12 than be carried by 6.
I love the XD series. Even the .45ACP XD handles better than my .40S&W Glock 22, despite the larger caliber. My only problem is with the magazine lips; they're damned sharp, and they'll wear your thumb down to nothing if you're hand-loading traditionally.

used to carry a springfield XD .45 (5" barrell compact grip) (god, i love Connecticut, the pistol permit is also CHL :-} hehehe) but had to sell it, long story. now i carry at least a 4 inch folder either in my boot (work) or in my pocket (everywhere else) for defense/utility purposes. my Jeep is almost a rolling knife shop, i have a SOG dagger in the driver side door, a 7" double egde knife and a 6" clip point in the back seat. i used to have a 12 inch kukri-style machete, but i don't know where that is right now... all this being said, i am never unarmed, OP you have the right idea.

Its just not in my nature to hurt people, I dont really care for being stabbed up but I cant imagine anyone making the conscious decision to do so as I am never armed... what would be the point? Also, I live in Britain. Fire Arms are illegal and I can probably get away unscathed from a knife attack, I have lived 19 years here in some pretty rough areas and never been mugged or attacked... I must be lucky or something.

Took a H&K USP .40 with me while hiking through Colorado bear country. I guess that counts

I used to carry around my butterfly knife where ever I went (until it broke). I would start fliping open and closed whenever I got bored, and I could do some pretty awsome tricks with it.

I plan on getting my full-carry pistol permit when I'm 21, but until then I plan on pickin' up a slighty more intimidating replacement for my butterfly knife (I've had my eye on one of these)

Nope. It's not even legal to carry pepper spray around here.
I can't ever imagine having to use a gun or a knife for self-defense anyway and I think I'd look a bit too antisocial for my tastes.

I've never even been in a fight, let alone need a weapon. I do have a sai sword from karate camp though, but it's currently on display in my room.

That's why I love my speed loader.

I use to carry a small pocket knife with me. Now I sometimes carry a lighter and one of those pocket cans of Axe deodorant. It makes a good flame thrower!

your criticizing LaughingTarget simply for being prepared. Its a reality that people are mugged, wounded, and killed in America everyday and he doesn't want to be the victim. Even if you can't imagine bad things happening, violent crime still occures in Britian and it would be wise to prepare for it. I am not recommending you break any laws, but faceing the reality of the day is not paranoia, and it is not healthy to simply ignore it. No warm blooded warm blooded American would ever object to you taking such precautions.
