I carry a folding knife, under 4 inches.
But honestly unless I was backed against a wall I would just run, I seriously doubt that a mugger can run a mile in under 6 minutes. And that way I avoid legal issues, you would be surprised how deep you can get when you try to defend yourself.

In the sense that I've pushed my keys through my fingers to get charvers to feck off, yes.

Two of my best friends are police officers with former military experience, so my group usually has at least two handguns and occasionally a 5.56 mm assault rifle or two in the car depending on where in the city they're working that week. Not to mention a large variety of melee weapons/OC spray and spare mags. I hope to be mugged at knife-point someday while I'm with them.

Knives and SAP gloves including the last few years of Highschool, dumb move if I got caught, but smart if any of the "I belong in the Bloods!" Gangsters ever got serious with their comments.

Weapon?... I am the weapon mother fuckers. Okay seriously no... not even a knife, I have two functioning arms and two functioning legs which have a low chance in killing any attacker but have a decent chance of inflicting a good enough amount of pain to deter the bastard from attacking again.

I carry a pocketknife, but that's mostly just for work. HOWEVER, I carry a multitool with two large knives, and a skinning knife. Illegal? Well, yes, but I won't be caught with my pants down.
Wow, you did some serious digging, this thread was dead for over six months. Actually, come to think of it, I remember posting on this thread...

Edit: I did post on here! I was the seventh post!

Another conceal carry here.

Taurus PT92, 9mm. A couple extra mags and I've got 46 rounds of peacemaking on me.

I know a lot of folks, especially folks from countries without civilian gun ownership, are going to label me as some sort of deluded paranoid, and you know what?

Whatever.

I don't expect you to understand nor do I decide to or to not do something on your whim anyway. You live where you do, I live where I do, and you don't get any say in how I run my life anymore than I do in yours. Let us keep it that way please.

Anyway, I just consider this basic safety preparation. Just like buckling my seatbelt in a car or using a life preserver when on the water or having a fire extinguisher in my home, I don't expect to ever have to use these things and I sure as fuck HOPE I don't have to.

But you know what? I'd be royally screwed if I ever did need them and didn't have them.

Remember folks, it doesn't matter how quiet and nice your neighborhood is. There are no such things as safe places and dangerous places, there are only safe people and dangerous people.

And dangerous people can show up anywhere!

My right and left fists, which are called Justice and Retribution, respectively.

(someone probably already made that joke, but I'm not gonna read thru 7 pages, so nya :p )

Seriously tho, I never felt the need to carry any type of weapon even at night, I live in Canada. :3

On occasion. A light wooden pole, about 70cm in length. I doubt it would be much use in a fight, but I've made my choice between potentially stabbing someone, and merely stopping them from stabbing me.

Then again, carrying anything longer than a few inches or sharper than a chesspiece is enough to have you arrested around here if you're randomly stopped.

None at all. I kind of like having the idea I can go outside without being attacked. The off chance it did happen though I can run pretty fast for quite a while and I know some basic fighting techniques.

Edit: Oops, sorry, didn't notice it was a resurrected thread.

My motto: if you're in a fair fight, you didn't prepare well enough.

Basically, this is just another form of insurance. I have auto insurance, but I don't expect to run into another car on the highway. I have health insurance, but I don't expect to end up in the hospital for weeks on end and run up huge bills. I have homeowners insurance, but I don't expect to have it burned down when I come home from work. Weapons are merely a form of insurance. Never had to use any of them and hope I never will, but I will not be caught with my pants down.

Criminals don't follow laws, so I can't expect some legislature or police force to be able to keep me safe. I'd rather be judged by 12 than be carried by 6.
i don't know where to start...

are you or have you ever been in the army?

also, i take it you are american?
