Most likely done before, but whatever...

So yea I'm talking about Pokemon. Their slogan is "Gotta Catch Them All" but a more appropriate and possible motto would be "Gotta Cure Cancer" because catching them all is bloody impossible!

Alas, I did catch them all in Ruby version with the help from my buddy. It was cool, but after completing the pokedex it was like "well what now..."

I'm attempting to complete my pokemon Gold version dex, but I'm beginning to realize just how hard it will be, so for fun I'm replaying Pearl and will try to complete that one.

So have any of you folks completed the impossible task of enslaving, I mean "catching" them all? For pure discussion mention what version, was it worth it, talk about the process, etc.

PS: why doesn't pokemon have a difficulty setting? Anyone else sick of battling completely inept trainers?

I voted no because not only have I never played them all, I've never even played one. Even if I had, I doubt I would. Any sort of side quest fetching always leaves me a couple short.

I'm damn close in HeartGold, at least for the first two generations. All I need to do is evolve some and I have all of Gen I, then I just need to get a few more to complete Gen II. Gen III and IV will eventually follow suit, probably. But Gen V? Nah.

Also, since I only play when in the mood, yeah, it's worth it. It's a lot of fun. I just wish that a single Pokemon cartridge can save more than one file so you can play through the adventure again if you get bored. It would make things so much better.

I beat red back in the day. I was a little sad that they just give you an in-game diploma. I expected Pokemon HQ to call me and give me millions of dollars for being so awesome. Alas, it was not the case and I haven't played a Pokemon game since.

Only in Pokémon Red, the first (and only, excepting Gold) Pokémon game I ever bought. Took quite a few years and a lot of begging parents to take me to those convention things where they gave out Mew, etc. but I have done it.
Couldn't do it on the newer ones though, with the thousands and thousands of pokemon there seems to be nowadays.

Completing my Pokédex in Red was one of the finest moments in my childhood. The happiness when I got that Omastar, my whole day was like:

You didn't actually need Mew to complete the first gen's Pokedex.

They need to make a shirt that says "I caught 'em all and all I got was this lousy certificate."

The only pokemon game I played for more than a few minutes was Ruby and I did not even come close. I probably caught 1/6th or so before I decided I had better options available and switched over to Final Fantasy Tactics.

I did. I even had mew. :)

In blue/red, my friend and I spent a while starting and restarting the game so I would pick on starter twice in a row and trade it to him both times, then go onto the next one, same again, then I started on last time picked charmander and traded him two pidgeys for a bulbasaur and sqirtle and then we went about collecting the various version specific pokemon for each other.

I had blue he had red. Then I tried it in Yellow, but got bored.

I plan on doing it in white.

I've never tried. I play Pokemon a bit differently from other people, it seems.

I never look at Pokemon guides, I don't catch a Pokemon unless I'm thinking about putting them in my party, I keep all party Pokemon within 4-5 levels of each other, I don't bother trading Pokemon from other games, I never grind unless it's impossible for me to beat the next Gym, and I stop playing after the Elite 4.

For me, this makes the game feel more like an RPG adventure than a tedious grind-fest/collect-a-thon.

Uh, just the internet in some forgotten past. I actually played Gears of War while playing that song once, followed by Tiny Tim. Never was sawing monsters in half so fun.

Ever heard of the Nuzlocke Challenge? [http://i43.tinypic.com/2cifszm.jpg] That's exactly the thing for a Pokemon player like you.

Well not in Pokemon, but in Personas 3 & 4, I 100%'d the compendium which is like 170 or so mons for each game. So... no? Yes?
I should play Pokemon Red again.

I'm really close on pokemon Black, I own at least over 500 and I've seen over 600. (There's 649 in total if you count the event pokemon that is.)

Although the ones I'm missing are really hard to get.

Kanto section of the Pokedex I'm missing Mew. (How I am going to get this one I don't even know.)

Johto section I'm missing, suicune, Celebi and the grass and water starters plus their evolutions.

Hoenn section I'm missing Dexoys and Latias.

Sinnoh 100% complete not all caught though just seen. (Yay for Plantium and the Poke transfer)

Unova 100% complete but the only ones I don't own are Archen and Zoru, why did Game Freak make him so difficult to get. I don't have a fucking Celebi.

No, but it sounds kind of fun. Might give it a try if I ever get around to buying Black or White.

ive never been that crazy about pokemon, but im nearly finished collecting every item in castlevania HD, and i have to say, due to the terribly inconsistant random drop rates, its been rather stressful...

I bought another GBA from eBay and a connector cable so I can finally finish my Kanto Pokedex in FireRed and LeafGreen. You know - the only real Pokedex.

Pretty close, now. Gotta start a couple new games so I can toss over the other starter Pokemon, though. And I'm sort of taking this to the next level, in that I want in my PC Storage one of every Pokemon. It's not enough to just have owned them all. I want one of every evolutionary stage. One Geodude, one Graveler, one Golem, one Kabuto, one Kabutops, one Dratini, one Dragonair, one Dragonite, and so on.

It is, as they say, gonna be a pain in the ass.

I've caught them all in a few versions.
Red (Not counting Mew)
Crystal (Not counting Celebi)
Ruby
Emerald
Diamond
Platinum
HeartGold
Black (not counting Melotta and Genesect)

It's pretty simple if you've been playing them as long as I have. Each generation I only have to catch the 100 or so new Pokemon, then transfer one of each evolution family of the rest over.

That's not fair, it shouldn't be allowed to cross the words out.
