Actually, yes - I had a fan that would act up and start making obnoxious noises, and slapping the side of the case would make it stop for a while.

Same here. It's stupid (though maybe satisfying) to hit a PC for any other reason. You have a far better chance of breaking something if it's just buggy coding or lack of ram that is making your PC act poorly
