Our expectations wouldn't be so bloated if they hadn't kept up this insane silence all these years. They kind of asked for it.skywolfblue said:I imagine that if they ever do release HL3 some many many years down the road (It's not coming out any time in the next few years), all the fans will be in up in arms about it not living up to their wildly insanely madly inflated bloated absurd expectations.
After the Portal 2 store, I have doubts about their competency.42 said:Whoa Whoa, let's not even go there, this is Valve were talking about, i don't think they'd allow a shit game to be released under their name.Lukeman1884 said:I hope it's not another DNF fiasco
The problem with Source is not the graphics. Let me show you what I mean. (Please note that I will not at any time be talking about "graphics" throughout my upcoming monologue, just engine technology.)42 said:As for those going on about Source being an old engine, what's wrong with that? Who cares about graphics anymore? they've come as far as they can, what's the point in improving it any further. Plus i prefer Valve using the Source engine as it feels like a game made by Valve. and i'll be very interested in seeing what they do with it when DoTA 2 comes out. and TF2 looks sweet, even though its been 4 years it still looks awesome..
It's an undeniable fact that technology has surpassed the Source engine for ages now. Take a look at the Unreal 3 engine. Don't pay attention to the graphics, but JUST what the engine can do itself. Natural and unscripted destructible environments (something even Portal 2 can't accomplish). Cloth physics, which only now is Source getting in DotA2, about six or seven years after Chaos Theory had it (hell, cloth physics are probably older than that!). The AI in the Half-Life games also isn't very spectacular (it's tightly scripted, is all) and the outdoor environments aren't that great. I mean, compare the forests from Episode Two to a forest made in the UDK or with CryEngine 3. I mean, look at some of the stuff that the guys at Nvidia are working on! YouTube it. Soon, we'll have dynamic water and realistic hair and VALVe will still be trying to make more fluid animations for characters.
I could go on all night about how Source is below all of the other engines, but I need to get to bed now if I want to get any kind of decent sleep. If you reply to me, I'll reply back when I wake up.
Good night, Escapists!
