Rayman, Crash Bandicoot, Croc, Spyro, these were all my childhood buddies. I was once invited to try Banjo and Kazooiee, but he'd never be the same as these 4 mad hombres!

Wasn't Rayman initially a 2d platformer? I remember having it on the Playstation, was a great game. The cartoon artstyle meant the game hasn't aged, and the bosses were always epic. Seriously a game that did boss battles well.
Twas a good game, but as boss battles go

I thought mr dark was rather disapointing

Derp. New one is coming out and Rabbids is the most popular game on Wii. Plus, Rayman 2 was a premiere title for the 3DS.
I had Rayman's 1 and 2 for the Dreamcast, still have rayman 2 right now... I didn't find it that fun, I think

Rayman 2 was one of the best platformers on the N64, if not ever.

The first was pretty good too, especially the soundtrack [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.290578-Top-Ten-Songs-From-Ubisoft-Games] in both. Then 3 set it on the path to destruction, trying to fit in pop culture references and unnecessary collectibles and a much more generic soundtrack and annoying characters and absolutely no atmosphere. And then Rabbids happened. We don't talk about that anymore.

I'm glad about Origins and all, but I hope they make another 3D one, not taking any cues from 3.

I've never been that interested in the series, but I'm stoked about Origins. Its visual style is nothing short of stunning.

Um, yeah.

We're a game site, Of course someone heard of Rayman from the 90's. Hell, I had the first one. I hated Raving rabbids and I think Origins is saying "FUCK THIS SHIT, I DO WHAT I WANT."

Which is awesome.

Rayman 2 was played a good part in my childhood, we somehow got rid of it (along with many old classics like Grim Fandango, Simon the Sorcerer 2 and the four Monkey Island games). Eventually got the PS2 port (same time I got Dead Space I think) and now we have it on the PC again...which doesn't work.
Rabbids kind of worked for the first game (seeing as it actually had Rayman in it) but afterwards it all just spiraled down to bad. I hope to get Origins as it's good to see Rayman come back, and christ does the art style look amazing

I played the first game and got to the second to last world (that game was hard), I've played and beaten the second numerous times, and I also had Rayman 3 on GameCube. My favourite out of them by far is Rayman 3, I haven't seen that much of Origins but I'll have to make it a point to check it out at some point.

Oh yes.

There was an obnoxious water level right before a Scorpion like boss in the first game (I think it was), where you had to jump on floating beach balls to reach it. I died at least 40 times before even reaching the boss.

I adored 1 and 3, though I never actually finished the first game. I could never get past the Band Lands.

Not really seeing what those things (I disagree about the no atmosphere thing, by the way) have to do with Rayman being mutated into that horrible minigame extravanganza in which he was just a sidecharacter. It was still a typical Rayman game.

I'm not trying to argue that 3 was the best game in the series or anything, I was way too young when I played it for even care about such a thing, I'm just seeing the link with the Rabbits bullshit that has plagued Rayman for too long now.

Do get the first Rayman then, it's one of the pinnacles of 2D art design, together with gems like Planescape: Torment and Legend of Mana.

Rayman was 2d though, originally. Sure, Rayman 2 may have been 3d, so you would've been right if you weren't talking about the whole series. At least get your facts straight when you make a thread asking wether people know a rather well known franchise.

That said, I like what they're going for with Origin, though I doubt I'll actually buy it. I do have fond memories of playing Rayman when I was (even more of a) kid, but I feel no need to actually relive them.

Rayman is a 3d platformer based in a fantasy world about a creature with no limbs but a set of floating hands, feet anda floating head called Rayman. you may of hear of him through the Mario Party rip off called Rayman Raving Rabbids, and even then i hardly accept that as rayman game. The last (PROPER) Rayman game was released in 2003 ....8 years ago. Finally at E3 they announced Rayman origins : a 2d platformer with the most extravagent artistic style, and frankly i think its fuckin awesome.

here
The original game simply titled Rayman was a 2D platformer :D

Ahh... Rayman...

I've played the first (I borrowed it off of a friend after I finished 3) and the third.

I'm not sure if I've played the second one (My memory sucks... Also Raving Rabidds disappointed me so much I seemed to have forgotten a lot of rayman...)

I'm still confused about how he went from throwing his fists to attack to throwing weird energy balls... But nontheless Rayman still = Awesome.
