I did meet someone once, and it was good - although later on it turned out she was INSANE! Not in a mentally ill way, or a kinky fun way, but in an insanely jealous bitchy way, heh. But hey, don't let that mini-horror story deter you. Just arrange to meet somewhere public and don't tell them where you live exactly until your sure their cool - fortunately I did, and it was all safe and good.

I met up with a lovely lass I'd been introduced to over msn by her best friend. The three of us had one hell of a day, but I havent seen her since. She lives quite a while away, and is always busy so we can hardly ever hang out but we still talk online.
Im also probably coming to Escapism UK aswell, but no guarrentees.

Escapism UK is where I plan to meet up with a few people. I've also met a few people from the net before. So far they have been ok.

I've never met up, but I wouldn't mind meeting some of my clanmates. They're all pretty chill and fun people. Be great to get drunk with them!

I know and talk to a few people from other countries on Xbox live. And I'm planning to meet up with a few members of my guild in Guild Wars in the near future.

I think people need to drop the whole Internet impression of other people where THERE ALL PERVS AND PAEDO'S, because to be honest, people who buy games, buy them to play them. It's an expensive way of meeting "victims", because of the price of games, monthly fees and so on.

As long as you take the proper precautions, you should be fine. Make sure someone knows where you are going. If possible, have a friend go with you when you go to meet the person, even if they leave after you meet up. Have some way of protecting yourself in case the person does turn out to be a crazy (mace, defense training, etc.). Carry your cell phone or borrow someones. And just generally find out as much information ahead of time as possible. Where you'll be, if anyone else will be there, what you'll be doing, etc. The more you're informed and the more other people know, the safer you'll be. Oh, and have fun too.
Good advice, the best place to meet really is somewhere nice and public and it is generally advised not to be a place you visit frequently, if at all, so if the person is crazy you will not run into them again.

As for meeting people, I have met none yet however I am moving to one of two places in about a month or two and will be in the same state/province as one. So I would probably meet up with said person then, why not, especially if I end up in the same city as my best friend, although him I will probably meet one day regardless.

As for other people, hey if anyone mentions it I am game, it just usually is not something I think about. There are a few other people I would like to meet though.

You being 17 and him being 20 doesn't sound that bad. Thing is though, did you know that before hand, or find out when you met up? (I'm actually asking, not being condesending)
Yeah i knew how old he was (his exact birthday even), what school he went to, even his myspace and msn (hence picture). We'd been friends for about a year on Xbox Live so I kinda knew a bit about him and figured it would be safe.

Hmm, I wonder if friend is the correct term?
Camerahead totally doesn't count. She's just a figment of your imagination. HA!

For myself, I've met one [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.80224] or two [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.108007] off of Escapist and several from another site I'm a part of. Wish I could meet some more to be honest. Awesome people.

I'm planning on doing it pretty soon. I have been talking to the guy for over a year now, and he is baisicly a brother to me. So I think it is about time me and him finally meet up, and where better to meet up, then at a gig?

Well, really you've got to use common sense.

If a "17 year old girl" asks you to send "pics" across your Xbox Live, chances are there a 60 year old Pedo.

If someone who now and again talks to you, doesn't bug you and never asks to meet up in the first place... chances are they're cool. But you gotta' read between the lines.

Online friends are for online, real friends are for real. I like to keep them seperate.
