Nitpicky indeed, but versus squirtle and charmander, bulbasaur makes more sense. Even if I lose 8, that's way late in the game when you have had a chance to catch all sorts of other pokemon. Charmander flops at the first gym and squirtle chokes at the third.
I realize you'd have other, better Pokemon by that point in the game, but you were the one who said Bulba/Ivy/Venusaur was average against Sabrina (whom the other two have no problem with, I should mention now) and good against Giovanni, and I'm saying "No he isn't, he's weak to Sabrina and neutral against Giovanni." Also...

But You might have an unevolved bulbasaur, unevolved pokemon have better stat growth, so if you hold off evolving bulbasaur, it'll have better stats.
...no they don't. Now, unevolved Pokemon frequently learn attacks at lower levels than they would evolved, and sometimes can only learn certain attacks at unevolved levels, but evolution has no effect on their actual stats, one way or the other. Oh well, It's been a long time since Red/Blue. I could have sworn Sabrina wasn't strong against Bulbasaur.... but that could just be that psychic was overpowered in red/blue regardless of type...

Pirates. Your alternate answers are awesome but they'll probably detract from the number of legitimate answers

SoulSilver for myself, and HeartGold for my brother. Our exclusive preferences mesh rather well.

Also, real men beat Brock with Ember spam.
