I just played the Heavy Rain demo. It's not really a lot of fun to play. 'Fun' is definitely not the word to describe it. But I have the nagging suspicion that it's not trying to be fun. What it does try is to be dark and, most of all, different. It's very different than any game I've ever played, and I must say that in the end, I still found it quite an experience. Not to mention that I love me some detective stories.
So I think I'm sold. I can see why others will dislike it though, so therefore my question.

Do you think, judging on the demo, that Heavy Rain is one big quicktime event or a revolution in video games?

I really REALLY R E A L L Y enjoyed it.
I say it is revolutionary. The control scheme will not replace that of a normal game, but for this style of game, it is perfect.
I loved it.

I don't know about a revolution. But I enjoyed Farenheit so I suspect that I'll also enjoy Heavy Rain.

I say it's revolutionary. The way it implements Quick-time events works really good.

Unlike God of War 3. It kinda missed the ball on that one.

Well I don't know if 'revolutionary' is the right word for it, but it was certainly different. In today's market though, that's all I really want.

The controls were almost painful for me but the story got me intrested enough to guarrante a purchase.

And no it won't be revolutionary, but it's still a welcome change from all the other genres.

Has noone here played Indigo Prophecy (That's farenheit), or shenmue or even frigging dragons lair? It's not like heavy rain hasn't been done before so that kind of takes out the revolution gameplay wise. A dark, edgy style that isn't intended to be all that fun. Well I've seen alot of games pull off what I've seen so far of heavy rain (The hitman games, Grand theft auto 4) so to me its only revolution is that it's not supposed to be fun and it's a game that needs to be more cinematic. why does a game need to be boring and cinematic, cinema's cinematic but at least watching a film is fun.

To me it looks just overrated, but then again I haven't even tried it (Due to not owning a Playstation 3) So this is going on what I've seen in gameplay demos, trailers and what I've heard over the escapist.

It was okay. As long as they dont piss all over the story like they did with Farenheit, and I have a niggling feeling that they will, why else would they measure the rain, unless they're just doing it for the fuck of it.

I need to see more than just the demo. I like the idea of it, but maybe not as a full game. From the looks of it, it'd do better as Episodic DLC.

This game has been done before. This game does it better but it has been done before. SO, if you're going to give credit where its due: Fahrenheit was revolutionary.

I enjoyed the demo ALOT. Can't wait for it to come out tomorrow. Revolutionary for this type of genre. I'm not saying that this control scheme will dominate games from this point on, but I think other developers may try to implement it in some way or another in the future.

I think it is a revolution, because its not the same FPS that we always have, its a nice diversion

I was actually thinking recently, what other games are there to distract me from the FPS genre since I needed a break from CoD:MW2 and after that, any other FPS would shrivel in comparison for now...I just started the demo, and it has me wanting to start playing Indigo Prophecy again (meaning I need to dust off the PS2 and pull out the game), because its a different alternitive, which is what gaming needs all the time. The same game copy pasted game isn't good gaming, it's just obnoxious

And the QTEs are used reasonably and since the game sells to them, it uses them well from the cutscene I played (the fight)

From what I've seen of the game, I wouldn't consider it to be a QTE. QTEs are one reaction input after another. I've seen spaces in the game where there is no reaction period, but time to move around examine the environmet, etc., etc. As such, the game cannot be a single QTE, even if its core gameplay was nothing more than a series of multiple QTEs.
