Go for either Fullmetal Alchemist (Brotherhood, preferably), Cowboy Bebop, or Avatar. All three are excellent in their own ways. And really, all three are pretty much must-sees for any rabid fan of good animation.

I'd go with Berserk because I think it's shorter than the rest of these and actually ended. Plus it's just plain awesome.

I would recommend watching Akira first (assuming you are watching all of these series/movies). It's a 2 hour movie and is a well done adaption of a 6 book (and I mean that term quite literally, those were some very large volumes) series.

After that I would either recommend Berserk or Avatar (which isn't an anime at all, but it's in the poll...)

Berserk has a very brutal and dark view on the fantasy genre; where war, death, and various crimes against humanity are the order of the day. In the midst of all of this, there is a lone warrior named Guts, who hires himself as a mercenary in order to survive. He is on a quest for vengence, as a man named Griffith betrayed him. The betrayal in question and Guts' past slowly unfold as the series goes on; showing us who Guts is, and why he's doing what he does. So, if you like your fantasy dark, then this is the place to go. A word of caution, it is very NSFW because as Lord Kat puts it... "Blood, Tits, Gore". There is lots of violence and nudity from both sexes.

As for Avatar: The Last Airbender, the summary is best put by TV Tropes: Avatar takes place in a fictional world divided into four nations: the Water Tribes, the Earth Kingdom, the Fire Nation, and the Air Nomads. Each nation has developed a spiritual art form to manipulate ("bend") their namesake element, but only the Avatar ? one person reincarnated into each race in turn ? is capable of mastering all four elements. The Avatar's role is to serve as a peacekeeper and protector for all four nations (as well as bridging and balancing the physical and spiritual worlds).
The show's story centers around Aang, a twelve-year old who is the most recent incarnation of the Avatar and is the eponymous last airbender, and his quest is to master the four bending arts so that he can save the world from Fire Lord Ozai and end the century-long war that he spent a hundred years trapped in an iceberg accidentally avoiding. Ozai's plans for domination are on a specific timetable, though, meaning that Aang has until the end of summer to stop them.

So, here you go; either a dark fantasy or light (with dark stuff occasionally creeping in) fantasy.

If you you watch Full Metal, then watch Full Metal Brotherhood, its much better than the original series and its very close to the manga.
Well until the story lines change I think the original series does a better job of telling it. I like the characters a lot better in Brotherhood (especially that sadist hypocrite Izumi) and the mood was a lot better than the original's air of hopelessness and despair, but the pacing is much better so you can really appreciate what's going on.
The main thing I remember that the original did better... well the only thing I can remember that the original did better was the death of someone. In the original they got a nice fighting chance but in brotherhood they kinda just got straight up killed.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is a lot better than Fullmetal Alchemist

Death Note is best off the poll list. Cowboy Bebop is one of the best too.

I would recommend the FIRST half of Death Note (The excellent part) and Hellsing OVA. Sadly enough, Hellsing OVA still isn't done yet, but what has come out is just great~

Naruto is good, but the manga is somewhat better simply because you don't have the cringe-worthy filler.

You need to watch both FMA and Death Note. Although the FMA manga is far superior to the anime(which is already good), so I suggest watching Death Note and reading FMA.

I want to reiterate, because there might be some misunderstandings.

First of all,I don't want this to be turned into a flame war about which anime is better than the other. We all have different tastes like I like Bleach more than Naruto doesn't change the fact that I will watch Naruto(Shippuden) as well eventually.

Secondly,I want to watch all of these that I listed(and more).I just wanted an particular order I should watch them in.

Thanks.

PS: One more thing...some of those I listed might be English dubbed like Cowboy Bebop.I usually watch them in Japanase + ENG sub because I like how the language sounds(more badass in Jap :p),but I don't know which is the "original" one to watch if you get my drift.

I'm guessing you're a bit new to this if you're choosing between which well known anime to watch.

I recommened not watching Akria because nothing will make sense and you'll go away from it with a mindfuck. Apparently it makes far more sense if you look into the source material. However it is award worthy for it's dynamic use of colour in night time scenes, and by that I mean it held the record for most shades of colour in dark scenes.
Naruto is suprisingly good in Shippuden, since it's starts off getting right to the action with the Akatsuki showing up.
Death Note is great and good gateway drug, because it makes people aware of the greta possibilities of character and plot, without the "anime wackyness", but the feelings about the ending are very divided, and by divided, I mean there's 99% chance you're one of the people who will dislike it. I jsut feel like treating it as a divided issue since I'm the 1% and the guy who tries to put "inb4 Death Note" on all threads about disappointing anime and/or their endings, just so I cna stop hearing it. Code Geass is a good follow up to this seires as it contains similar themes, and a protagonist more universally enjoyed, with more anime tropes. Helps to ease you into other stuff if the weirder stuff puts you off.
FullMetal Alchemist is a great series, also pretty god for new people, but do you plan to watch the original or Brotherhood? I prefer the original's darker tone, but Brotherhood is better overall, but rushes the first episodes and takes til the second episode to explain what the hell is happening, if you're a newcomer.
Ghost in the Shell? Which one? The movie's a bit overrated for what it is, or maybe it's just that everything supposedly copied it, including the Matrix...which I honestly don't see the connection in. The series, Stand Alone Complex is quite good. Very episodic, but has some multi-eps plots and made me feel for the situations of even the episodic characters.
Cowboy Bebop? Haven't watched it. Plan to, but it's incredibly hard to get it on DVD now. Supposedly great and form what I've seen, probably is, since it's often an anime hater's exception.
Berserk? Haven't watched, but I'll tell you from what i know it'll probbaly fuck with yoru mind a bit, and you'll be left in the dark unless you continue form the end of the anime with the manga.
Avatar The Last Airbender, if I'm feeling tehcnical, is not an anime, but still quite a good show. Nice to have an overarching story, and some good comedy at points.

My vote would be for Death Note or FMA next, since they seem to be great...episode-turners(?) to even more casual people.

I feel like my wall of text and use of language has made me sound a bit anime snobbish.

If you can find the series, try Patlabor and the 3 movies. Non-silly mecha and (mostly) intelligent police stories.

But otherwise, Cowboy Bebop, Akira and Ghost in the Shell (with movies), Beserks pretty good too.

I misread the title on the homepage as "Help me choose which animal I should be next".
I thought that you may be a wizard.
Needless to say, I am disappointed and a little upset.

Akira.

Plus, after you have watched Akira, you can yell "TETSUOOOOO!" to your friend, and he will reply by yelling "KANEDAAAAA!". At least, that's what my friend and I do...

I may be a little new to anime's,not watching them and being more focused on games rather, but I can say that I can handle mind fucks pretty well.I am not easily swayed away from them.

The only thing I hate are fillers that keeps me from enjoying the ongoing story/action.

Cowboy Bebop's English dub is widely regarded as one of the best dubbed animes of all time. Steve Blum IS Spike in my mind.

FMA is an excellent show, but the only winner that can come out of this is Cowboy Bebop. That is seriously the best show ever put on TV, IMO. The only anime that comes close is Wolf's Rain (and to an extent, Monster).

Well uhh...yeah, watch Fairy Tail! (do you watch it Dubbed or Subbed?) Also, if you are looking for a classy, clever and mysterious 16 episode anime, can't go wrong with Baccano! Also, Durarara!! was made by the same person! check em out! (Durarara is 26 episodes)

I would recommend Reborn more but the Manga is far superior.
Now,now don't bombard me with more animes to watch other than the list. Those are quite many that I have to watch so let's just keep it to the list shall we? :p
