liked it at first... then it got boring and easy... didnt feel like I was learning the rest of that quarter
Well you ought not to be so easily offended by people with (as you say) abnormal attention spans. I agree with you on your point that it's wise to try to do well. Of course, seeing as how the majority of people in this thread have no love of mathematics, I might venture that the true failing here is in the quality of public education and not in any personal defects. If math was taught in a more interesting fashion then people would be more interested in it.VicunaBlue said:Don't be a cocky dick.Iron Lightning said:I personally found algebra far too simple to be interesting, calculus was alright though.
I'm always bored and tired as fuck, so I don't do to well. The one semester that I actually tried I got a low A, so you could try my approach. Most people can actually do it, it's just that most peoples attention span (me included) is that of a goldfish.
I'm a Firefighter/Emergency Medical Specialist. I have to use algebra in figuring out friction loss in hose lines and drip rates/ bolus infusions for patient medications. It is used quite frequently in emergency services. I wish I would have worked harder at it in school. On the plus side, I'm usually just teaching other guys to do it on the fire dept. since I don't usually run the pumper and am one of the ones inside the fire.zpfanatic81195 said:where do you workdfphetteplace said:I was good at math until 6th grade. What happened in 6th grade? Well, at the end of the year I was told I failed the class, with an 86%. Wait, what? The teacher said she felt I could have done better, and just didn't try. Now shouldn't that show that I was GOOD at math? I didn't try and still passed with a B? And never mind the fact that I missed a ton of school since my father feel ill in October and then died later that year. So I had to repeat the same class the next year. Well, since I already knew it all, I just went through to book at the beginning of the year and did it all, and slacked off the rest of the year. After that, I sucked at math because I forgot to do all the Algebra I had learned. So when high school came, I did the bare minimum for math since I had hated it so much. Now I am terrible without a calculator. And anyone who tells you you don't need algebra is lying. I have to use it every day at work.
they dont do everything they cant solve equations or diffrentiate/intergrate, but the REALLY expensive ones can draw graphs on the screen. (parametric ones as well)zpfanatic81195 said:WHERE CAN YOU FIND ONEFurburt said:I'm utterly horrible at maths. Anything more than basic equations and I'm lost. I just can't think that abstractly.
Thankfully, nothing I ever want to do in life requires me to be in any contact with mathematics at all. When I leave school, I'm going to get one of those fancy programmable calculators that are so advanced that they don't let you use them in exams and bring that around with me, and that's maths sorted for the rest of my life.
im not the social type anywaySober Thal said:Yeah, Algebra was tough in 7th grade (that's Junior High for some people). If it is really getting to you, I suggest skipping high school, get a GED, and train as an apprentice for a labor type trade. The money your parents may have saved for college would probably be better spent supporting you until you become self sufficient in this 'trade work' you do, as opposed to drinking beer in a frat house.zpfanatic81195 said:what was your overall experience in algebra and the other, harder math classes.
how could i not focus on that thong!?Blindswordmaster said:Math:you gotta do, what you gotta do.
-Just try to take good notes and always do your homework. If you're not getting it, get some help. Don't focus on the thong of the hot chick in front of you. This is my advise. Use it wisely.
