The only people I go out of my way to kill are the kind of people that use words like "noob".

Wait, are we talking about games or real life?

You are confused. To me, n00b= loozer/jerk.
Newb= newbie.

N00bs are beyond all hope. Newbies are fun to help.

Like Erana it depends on how they word it if they say Newb then I will help then because I know that they will need it while n00b, I will just hunt down and kill in anything I am playing.

The way I see it is I didn't get help when I started out, why should they? I don't like people holding my hand through the game and I don't help people much either. When I start a new game I either learn with a friend or tough it out. I set out to make as many mistakes as possible and then find out how to avoid them. If a n00b can't do that then he deserves to be destroyed. That's why I hate match making. It's far better to be destroyed by an experienced team than to go even with an evenly matched team.

I will help people by telling them controls or helping by covering them but I won't actively teach them. I'll extend their lives so they can learn more. But if I'm going to die because of him he's on his own. Hell I'll even shoot through him if it'll save my hide. All's fair in love and war. (And games)

If they're being mature about it and seem to genuinely want to get better, then I might give them a hand. If they follow me around demanding gold or items in broken english with the shift button mashed down, it's a good way to get killed.

If someone asks how something works or I see them doing something stupid (And they're on my team) I answer/give them advice. Otherwise, no, not really.

EDIT: Yeah, and they have to be genuinely mature about it. I won't bother helping a lost cause.

I believe they prefer "newb".
I also thought the term was 'newb'. Shouldn't 'noob' be reserved for the idiots who have played the game long enough to learn the basics, still suck, but don't admit it?

Anyways, as per this question, I'd say that I help out nnewbs/noobs time to time, when I can. Though, I'm usually a quiet one, so no one really asks me.

Depends on two things for me. First and foremost is my mood. If I am in a bad mood for whatever reason everyone is fair game.

If I'm in a decent mood though the second factor comes in to play. It really depends if they are a "newb" or a "noob". To me there is a difference. A newb is a new player, someone who simply does not understand the game or what they need to do. A noob, however, is a retard. These are the people that should be beaten within an inch of their lives and then nursed back to health so I can beat them again.

Rule 1: If you don't bother me I won't bother you.
Rule 2: If you ask for help, I'll give you help
Rule 3: If you scream for help angrily, say hello to the mute button

Basically my philosophy on noobs

I help out the lil guys, cause seriously if no one helped eachother out then no one would be playing any kind of MMORPGs and it's just be boring :p

That and I don't think anyone appreciated being completely left alone to learn everything about a game without any help when you just start a game, and it's even worse if it's a genre you've never tried!

Also it's fun to take a break from the level grinding to take a newbie around town and show 'em the ropes.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Nobody likes noobs, cause they're usually annoying assholes who make me thank god for a mute button.

If a newb is asking for help on the other hand, I'll help em out. I mean, I'm sure as hell not gonna belittle anyone. We all gotta start out somewhere.

It's the newbs who are also noobs that are pains, cause part of me is like "Okay, give em a break, they're just starting" and another part of me is like "god, I should just ditch this douche right now."

As Hk-47 once said (with a Pacifist package):
  • All lifenoobs need to be nurtured and loved. How I love to serve Meatbags!
.
And I prefer 'new player' because very little I see nowandays merits an abbreviation. Especially laughing.

aaaahh... the age-old question: What DO you do with new people?

Well, I very highly agree with the aforementioned piece about the distinctions between : personally, there's a clear difference between being a "newb/newbie" (a person new and unfamiliar to a game), and being an outright "n00b/noob" (aka- an ignorant asshole with their head shoved up their own ass or someone else's). And someone can be both: i've been in situations too often where you try to talk to someone, and all you get is either hate comments or draw a blank. There's also the case of the high-level n00b, otherwise known as a server jackass; unfortunately, this seems to be the path that most players take once they get to a high enough skill level.

Anyhow, I try to stick to the tried-and-true "Treat others as you wish to be treated" method. Note the word "try". Newbies, in general, ask valid questions, absorb information quickly along with methods or anything of the like, and try not to make asses of themselves. They can be fun to hang around once they get the ropes of a game, and will try hard to do things right. Now, this is the ideal, pedestal-perfect newbie, but in general, the longer they're in the game the better they will get, and the more useful they will become. Who knows? One might even break a record or something.

However, some people are so far stuck up their own asses just because they're a few levels ahead/own a character with a high level, or because they have a higher kill count, that they absolutely refuse to listen. Those people I usually end up blacklisting and/or ignoring completely, or in the case of games that allow it, kill them :) Unfortunately, most MMORPGs rely more upon time spent grinding than actual skill, so there's so many more idiots running around to ruin the enjoyment -.-"

And then there's those that speak entirely too much, or not enough. Its annoying to have to sit through someone spamming shit in all caps, or screaming into the microphone their intentions, but there's nothing more frustrating than the silent treatment from someone. For both groups, I have the tendency to either kill them, leave the area, or kick them out of / outright leave whatever group has been formulated, since its not worth even being around them.

Now another annoying personality is those that "want to be your friend" outright, but that's a different topic entirely. In a nutshell: unless you know the person, ignore them or move away, because they only invite trouble upon themselves. In general, these will disappear faster than a delivery boy at an LA Fitness center, due to the fact that people will beat them over the head with the "n00b" stick over and over. Either that, or they almost ALWAYS turn out to be complete jerks and assholes themselves.

As for being a hacker, I just laugh on the inside when people call me one, since these people obviously don't know what they're talking about. Upon seeing one, however, I almost immediately hit the "Report" button if I can and drop the bastard just for entertainment. In general, hackers are n00bs. I have met some nice hackers or former ones, but the ration between smart, intelligent hacker to stupid, head-up-ass-foot-in-mouth dimwit is, unfortunately but not surprisingly, astronomically low. People don't realize that, when they hack, it disrupts the balance of a game, slows it down, and destroys an economy. Then again, an economy run essentially and mostly by twelve-to-fourteen-year-olds is bound to be fucked up right from the beginning...

Well it depends on the game. If theyre a noob-tube-er in CoD4 I would verbally assault them and then do my best to hunt them down so I could burn thier possesions; If it is in a mmorpg then so long as they asked legibly and nicely in english I would do my best to help. However, if any noob inconveniences me, I say BURN HIM/HER.

The only 'newb' I help is this girl I'm friends with. I help her alot on Battlefield: Bad Company by giving her tactics to use like burst firing and flanking the enemy. She's getting gradually better, with better K/D ratios, a higher score per match and she's trying out all the different classes instead of just the 'Assault' class. My aim is to try and get her pro at BF:BC, mainly for the lulz. It would be funny watching a girl own a group of hardcore gamers. Also I've helped her on TF2 by going easy on her, because when she first played TF2 she count use both analog sticks at the same time.

And to INF1NIT3 D00M, you can use the n00btube on COD4 with skill. I can take some amazing shots with that thing by using the hip firing aimer. It's so fun to get an amazing n00btube kill, only to be flamed for using it.
