What would it be fellow Escapists? And how would it affect the industry for better or worse?

My Change: Halo was never made. This isn't an anti-Halo statement, quite the opposite. FPS' might not have regenerating health. The Xbox 360 might not even exist because the original Xbox's sales wouldn't have been nearly as good, perhaps it would be a two horse race between Sony and Nintendo maybe Bungie got picked up by Sega. There may well have been a new gaming project that Microsoft turned down to pick up Halo, maybe that would have seen the light of day. The results of this change might be quite massive on current games and the industry as a whole - I'd like to explore those possibilities.

Alternate Change: I would stop Sega from dying as a console maker. I think the "console wars" would be alot more interesting if at least half of the competitors were games companies and not branches of corporations. And as a result, Sonic might be good again. But on the downside, some awesome games they've brought out as a games developer might not exist.

Rules: You can only change one thing in gaming history at a time, but you can talk about more than one if you can't settle on which one you'd go for.

So people who actually voted yes then didn't write anything, what would you change?

My Change : I would stop Microsoft and Sony from jumping onto Nintendo's band wagon. Leave the motion controls and casual gaming to Nintendo and give the hard core gamers what we want.

Alternate Change : Stop Infinity Ward from releasing Call of Duty 4 and the wave of shitty shooters that followed it.

Now that'd be interesting... A world without MW+MW2... Maybe the FPS genre wouldn't see the need to forcefully ram a uneeded progression system into the game for one.

My change: I'd prevent Bobby Kotick from ever getting hired at Activision.

Alternate Change: I'll travel back to 1983 and raid the house of the guy who purchased Atari and kept the Crown, Philosopher's Stone and Sword prized from the 150,000 dollar contest that Atari started with the Swordquest games.

I'd get rid of Achievements and Trophies.

For some reason all games now need to have some fucking high score system even if it's completely inappropriate for that type of game.

But then who would oppress the employees? And overcharge for games that don't last the weekend? :p

Nobody would and then we'd be more equal.
Now thats an idea I can get behind. I suppose IW could get back to making CoD games great aswel.

My Change: Having the Nintendo Wii keep the name Nintendo Revolution, and be black from the beginning.

Not to mention bad game companies have found a niche market for exploiting achievement whores by giving bad games VERY easy achievement lists. I've seen one of my mate's achieve list; Hannah Montana, , King Kong and Avatar are all on it. (He's had his 360 for about 2 months, so he went out and bought them purely for the easy G's)

Firstly: I would go back in time and make sure Shigeru Mayamoto (sic) went into board games instead of video games. I'd do this because a) I'd really like to see how gaming would've turned out if the "father of the industry" had never had anything to do with it, and b) for the lulz.

Secondly: I'd alter time so that Valve was responsible for DOOM, Wolfenstein, and possibly HALO. Why, you ask? Why not, I say. I think it'd be kind of cool to see what the industry would be like if they had produced three of the most revered FPS's of all time, and maybe we'd get a "Gordon Meets The Chief" game out of it.

I'd make it so the wii never came out. Perhaps some game devs wouldn't be stuck making bog standard wii games.

OOOoooOOo the atari market crash is interesting on so many levels.

I would probably save either Microprose or Troika from going belly up and also help them make a HUGE name for themselves much like Bioware or Bethesda holds today. As they are my all time favorite strategy and RPG makers respectively.

As small of a change as that is, I think your change would influence the success of the Wii a fair amount, perhaps drawing a more "hardcore" (hate that term) gamer to the console, instead of viewing it as "gay". At least initially, which of course would make more 3rd party games developers invest more time in the console.

Plus it'll look and sound more awesome.
