Yeah, this is basically Trolling IRL and not very effective at that.

Public schools may be forced to be secular but that doesn't mean HAVE to allow making fun of other religions.I mean if you wore a t-shirt which was bad-mouthing Vishnu or Allah or stuff like that, you're going to be sent home because religious TOLERANCE is vital in keeping a school cohesive. Religion is "their club" and there needs to be separation, keep the trolls out of church and keep the church out of the science lab, that is what secularism is all about.

HOWEVER, if your T-shirt was more a criticism of Papal authority such as emphasising how their "abstinence only" policy is likely INCREASING the spread of HIV/AIDS then you could get away with that, because policies can change. But that T is just shitting over the myth of Christ's birth (yeah, you heard me, myth).

Wear a T-shirt that says "The Pope's Abstinence Policy is dooming Africans to die from AIDS" or words to that effect and you have much more grounds to wear it.

But if you just want to just make fun of the Myths that Religions hold dear... well you can do that out of school grounds.

Same goes for Evolution, you can say "Evolution via Darwinian Natural Selection is a fact" but you can't say "The Holy Bible is full of shit", or at least not on school grounds... I know it's complicated, but can you understand that?

If I wore this shirt to school, do you think I'd get in trouble? I've asked my friends and most of them don't think so or are on the line. I'm Catholic btw, and I don't think it's offensive. Just funny.

Oh, and just for the heck of it, post some shirts you think are funny.

EDIT: I go to a public school, guys. I don't think I'd wear this to church though, without getting mauled...
i think you will get in trouble. i went to a christain school and they definitely wouldnthave gone for that. i think that is hilarious though

Remember, in America your right to Freedom of Speech as Protected by the 1st Amendment is much like your Right to Bear Arms as protected by the 2nd Amendment, they are not absolute. You can't take a gun onto school grounds and you can NEVER own a nuclear bomb.

The First Amendment is allows much more freedoms but the same "non-absolute" principals apply, you cannot say whatever like where-ever you like.

You can't incite a riot, even though you are using your speech that is not making your views and opinions clear, that is similar moral equivalence to vocally ordering a Hitman to kill someone or murdering someone with a gun you legally own.

You cannot get away with inciting religious anger in a public school, your right to freedom of speech is not absolute, the principal has a duty to be secular and that also means to NOT allow any faculty member or student show animosity towards people of ANY religion, that includes openly attacking their beliefs.

It is the same as an anti-bullying policy, freedom of speech is not going to protect some punk from teasing someone to the brink of suicide.

That is how even in a Secular & Public school system religious beliefs can become "sacred", but WITH CAVEATS:
-Faculty and students cannot support or evangelise any religion: quite simply keep if off campus.
-No religious beliefs should be allowed to interfere with the FACTS as are needed for a proper eduction. So no Genesis in the biology lab!
-Any study of religion should be purely and 100% academic, it should study the mythology AS MYTHOLOGY not as the idea that it might be true unless it can be PROVEN to be true. So the Birth of Jesus should be shown with respect, but not more weight should be attached to it than the birth of Hercules in Greek mythology.

The entire point of secularism is to allow people of many different beliefs to come together to learn, and interact, you want to talk about god or even how god doesn't exist, do it out of school time and off school premises, and OFF THE TAXPAYERS' BUDGET.

Think of it as like a "don't ask, don't tell" policy, just enough of this bullshit we have learning to do.

Wear a button up shirt over it, just in case. That way, you can cover it up if someone gets pissed off.

Nah, you'll be fine. Go for it. My metalhead friends wear shirts with Satanic and anti- religious symbols to school all the time. Then again, I have a theory that the teachers have just trained themselves to ignore metal band shirts. Really, I guess it depends on the staff at your school.

I can't imagine why you'd get in trouble for that.

Now these, yes, you'd definately get in trouble for wearing them:

I remember when that caption was popular and the pics were all over.

Funniest shirt I've seen: A picture of a bloody cartoon mallet with the caption reading "She had it coming"
Funniest shirt I own:
Note: that is not me!

What's the worst that can happen? Detention? It's your choice, either you risk detention to impress strangers on the internet, or you stay on the safe side.
