So after all my friends changed their face book pictures to ponies and started to send me messages about how awesome ponies are, I started to think the apocalypse really had happened.

After my brother of all people told me to watch the show, I was quite positive the four ponymen (hehehe)were going to drop by for a cup of sugar next. Grudgingly, I agree to watch the pilot episodes of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Then I proceeded to laugh my ass off.

After the first two I found myself addicted, watching the episodes as fast as I could. When I finished the last episode, I grabbed my brother by the collar and demanded more, much like a crack addict. Like Santa Christ rising from the dead, he told me that there was a second season on its way. So now I spend most of my time listening to My Little Pony songs and remixes on youtube.

I know for a fact I'm not the only one out there, so vote my fellow bronies and all of you who are not blessed enough to become one.

(PS. I didn't use the search bar for another post like this because I felt like having my little speech here.)

why is the show good? i really want to know... and dont give me that "you just have to watch it" bullshit, i want to know its quality.

is it social commentary?
general humor? if so what area?
is it trying to bank on nostalgia from 90s and early '00 cartoons?
are the charactors relatable or are they just fun to watch?
is this just a long after school special? (this is the thing that really bugs me about alot of cartoons today, as well as the polar opposite a la spongebob)

i have no idea why this has been such a hit, have no tv with which to watch it and have no idea on where to find a whole episode online.

convince me

Can there be an option that doesn't force me to feel like I'm alienating you people? I'm sorry, but I used to think bronies liked the show for what it is, but now I'm beggining to think you just like the fact that you're different.
We do like that we're different...a little bit at least. Because it means we get to fight that stigma and get people to accept the fact that liking ponies is alright.

I'm a girl, but considering I've never really been into stereotypical girly stuff, I like to think that I qualify as a brony.
Interesting... this is the first time I've actually seen a girl talk about the show.

I tried watching it to see what all the fuss was about and got bored after 5 minutes.

I also have a buddy who is a Brony who pretty much outright admitted that dudes like him just enjoy perving on the ponies and fap to hentai style pornos of them. It didn't surprise me.

Perhaps waving a metaphorical banner and shouting "Look at how different I am" isn't the best way to have a group accepted into society. Just look at certain homosexuals or body-modders. *sigh* in a perfect world, intolerance wouldn't exist nor would this situation, but sadly, and I'm gunna quote Movie Bob, "this is NOT a perfect world."

(Please tell me if I'm out of line here or if I'm saying something that makes me look like an ass. I'm not trying to sound ignorant if that's how this is coming off.)

Also, thank you OP for the level-headed poll option, I think you are forgetting that society isn't ENTIRELY full of ass-hats. :p

Alright, lemme give it a shot...
For one, snarking at the silly stuff thats going on can be a hell of a lot of fun (Especially in the first two episodes)
Pinkie Pie's rediculousness is a lot of fun too.
I guess the big thing is that you gotta look at it trying to have fun and be silly, just like the show is. If you try to go serious face on it, you're completely missing the purpose.
I know that's not exactly what your looking for but I are sleepy and didn't pick it apart that much, I just enjoyed the fun XD

I think the show was fun, but I am no no way a Brony, and I am betting a bit sick of the "OMG AH IS BRONY" posts on this site.

I like the show but I don't feel the need to call myself a "Brony". That's just kind of a dumb thing to classify yourself as.

Post one, take this informatively. Post two, take it as a sort of "goddamnit not this shit again"-type rant.

We do legitimately like the show. It's funny, well-written, well-animated, has insane amounts of character, isn't your standard 24-minute toy commercial as you'd think it is, and it's surpassed the expectations of everyone (well the bronies at least) by ages. You come in expecting something that's absolute shit like the last 3 or 4 attempts, and you get this insanely well-done TV show that's appreciateable by any age or gender.

That, and the community is full of awesome people.

I watched a few episodes and all I can say about it is 'Meh.'
The writing and animation are good, but the fact that it is aimed at little girls makes me really not enjoy it.

This confuses me ever so slightly, prolly cause of a typo... I know what you mean, but the sentence itself has a lot of ways to be re-constructed XD

Good for you. But I don't see why this is a such huge issue and deserves about 9000 threads on the same topic. =/ Who cares what you watch on the TV? I'm beginning to get the impression that a lot of Bronies aren't watching the show because they like it but just so they can say they're a Brony and seem alternative and edgy.

In short: Don't like it myself, nor do I really care if you like it. It's your choice. Just don't force it down our throats.

me? I was never able to get into that show. but if people say that show is clever and fun, I'll take their word for it..
Woah, that game was actually good. Thanks for the link.

I think this is the first fan-base I have ever come across that produces anything other than absolute crap (no offence to other fan-bases, I've just really never come across anything fan-made that was half decent before). Even some of the fan-fiction is good.

Either that or I've become so indoctrinated by this point that I consider anything pony-related to be great, anyway...

I don't think that's the case. Not for most people, at any rate. It sounds like this guy only recently started watching the show, and if he's like me he's probably really hyped up. I'm not sure how to explain this but after most of a lifetime of watching/playing/reading only "manly" type stuff there can be a pretty strong emotional rush from realizing that you enjoy something so...cute. There was a period of about a week that I was pretty much thinking about the show all the time. I was seriously concerned that I might respond to my dorm-mates' casual greetings by saying "Ponies." Personally I responded to this by becoming even more withdrawn until it passed because I hate drawing attention to myself, but for a more outgoing person...well, you get these threads.

And it seems to me that at least as many threads are from people outside the fandom wondering what's going on or just hating. Popular stuff just gets talked about a lot, by both sides.

Dude. That's not how ignoring works.
