To respond to your comment: Actually, my history classes (at university) rarely asks dates. Only High schools ask dates on a regular basis.
OT: No, it most certainly is not a useless subject. Were it not for learning history, so many errors would continue to be made, even though people will not recognize that those same errors have been done in the past. In other words...
Of course, there is the other side of repeating history, as in the part where history repeats all of the greater works of mankind in some form. However, there would be too much of a risk to do so with all of the negative historical moments. While all moments in history will not apply to you, it is still important to learn at least a small amount of them. Is repeating history worth the risk of future tragedies?
