Yesterday, my Mom asked me to do some laundry, but when I woke up today I honestly had completely forgotten about it... When she got home she was of course mad, so she made me do it right away. Thats not the problem though, she also made me do extra chores on top of what I was supposed to do. I didn't give her any attitude or complain at all, the only reason she made me do extra stuff is because I forgot.
Now here's where you guys come in. How bad do you think forgetting really is?

Note: I tried to make the poll answers as un-biased as possible, but if you think of another way to phrase them, then that would help

If you're asked to do something you should do it. If you think you'll forget, write it down. I've been living on my own the last few weeks and I've just got into that habit. I kept forgetting to water the plants and take the bins out. I can't really say "I forgot, sorry" when a $75 plant dies.

Also - If you can't think of a decent poll, don't make one.

Good practice, the amount of shit I get asked to do at work, I need to keep a pad with me and make a list as I go. Your mum just wants you to not get fired, and to do the damn laundry. :)

I forget a crapload of stuff (My French homework record attests to that fact), but I'd rather not do it. It isn't unforgivable or anything, but it can be irritating when people forget despite near-constant probing about it.

Its not that bad, but you're mom is right in what she did. Its to teach you not to do it very often.

First time making a poll. Any ideas to make it better?
Add an option for neutral and an option that says "I like pushing buttons!"

People forget all kinds of stuff all the time. Forgetting something isn't bad but it probably made your mom mad so so she punished you. If it happens again, then maybe you should start writing down chores you have to do so you don't forget.

Ugh, I know exactly how you feel. The number of times my Mum has asked me to do something and I've forgotten. It's not like I intentionally decide "Oh that's not important", I just have a memory like a sieve which is getting worse as I get older...which ain't good as I'm almost 20.

Anyway, I think forgetting is bad and that's out of personal experience. I just don't like to forget things.

Forgetting is a part of life, but sometimes it is not a good idea to forget something, so you should figure out a way to remember. I recommend using Memento: http://www.guyswithtowels.com/downloads.html

Then you can write down what you need to remember, without looking for a pen/paper or getting up.

We all forget to do shit but I don't blame your mom for making you do extra work. I'll bet you're gonna remember to get your chores done before you go do other stuff next time huh?

Meh. For important things you'd catch holy hell about forgetting (like your girlfriend's birthday), use a calendar. For everything else, don't worry about it, no big deal.

I think that selective memory loss occurs when you listen to your mum

Mum-There is five pounds on the counter downstairs, use it to buy yourself some snacks

response- *swoosh* run downstairs, grab money, go buy snacks then enter sugar heaven

Mum-Could could you clean your room

response- yeah sure *forget 5 seconds later*

I think that this is all part of being young. Plus your mum always forgives you.

Probably best do to things straight after you are asked.

I always forget to pass on messages, that gets me into trouble

Oh God, if I had a dime every time my mother yelled at me for forgetting to do something...

I have SUCH an awful memory. For some reason, the only thing that sticks in my mind is faces of people. I think it's a really bad trait of mine that I'm trying to change. I don't blame your mom (or mine) for getting upset.

depends,

if it was to take say a box up the attic it aint that bad

but if you forget your woman's anniversary, she'll jump down your throat and rip out your brain through your eye sockets

I was originally going to say that it's no big deal and you're only human, but then I read what she did for punishment. I assumed some sort of unfair punishment was implemented and that's why you were angry, but more chores seems to perfectly fit the crime.
