I need to go to the eye doctor and have an eye exam and buy some new contacts. Which got me thinking: Just how bad are other people's vision. So just how bad is your vision?
Perfect 20/20 eyesight! Or better.
This is the option for people who have perfect or even better than perfect vision. No glasses or contacts for you.
I need reading glasses.
For those of you who have good vision, but need some glasses to focus on text and print in books. Really just an annoyance.
Not terrible, but I need glasses or contacts at all times.
Pretty self explanatory. You can see fine, but it's much better to have glasses or contacts at all times.
"Do you see that big 'E'? Well, I don't."
This needs a little explanation. This is a quote. From me. I went to an eye doctor once and they made me do the standard eye chart without my glasses and asked me to read the smallest letters that I could. I looked at the person and said, "Okay, do you see that big 'E' on the chart?" They affirmed that they did. To which I said, "Well, I don't. I just know that it is there." Yeah, it was a pretty short part of the test.
Long story short, my vision is bad. Very bad. I can get around my house, and shower or whatever without glasses or contacts, but driving, watching television, reading, even doing this without my glasses or contacts is out of the question.
In fact, I just tested that statement, and I can not read this on my computer screen without my glasses.
Without my glasses or contacts, I am legally blind.
I consider this completely separate from the above. People in the previous category could function reasonably well without glasses or contacts. People in this category need them. They literally, can't see otherwise. My sister has been this way for almost as long as I can remember. I heard it described as finger vision. She couldn't see your hand in front of her face and count your fingers.
I only need glasses to see at a distance.
For those who can't see at a distance without their glasses. Added this to fill a gap that some comments noticed.
So Escapists, How bad is your eyesight?
Also, feel free to share funny stories that relate to your vision or just discuss eyesight in general.
