I need to go to the eye doctor and have an eye exam and buy some new contacts. Which got me thinking: Just how bad are other people's vision. So just how bad is your vision?

Perfect 20/20 eyesight! Or better.
This is the option for people who have perfect or even better than perfect vision. No glasses or contacts for you.

I need reading glasses.
For those of you who have good vision, but need some glasses to focus on text and print in books. Really just an annoyance.

Not terrible, but I need glasses or contacts at all times.
Pretty self explanatory. You can see fine, but it's much better to have glasses or contacts at all times.

"Do you see that big 'E'? Well, I don't."
This needs a little explanation. This is a quote. From me. I went to an eye doctor once and they made me do the standard eye chart without my glasses and asked me to read the smallest letters that I could. I looked at the person and said, "Okay, do you see that big 'E' on the chart?" They affirmed that they did. To which I said, "Well, I don't. I just know that it is there." Yeah, it was a pretty short part of the test.

Long story short, my vision is bad. Very bad. I can get around my house, and shower or whatever without glasses or contacts, but driving, watching television, reading, even doing this without my glasses or contacts is out of the question.

In fact, I just tested that statement, and I can not read this on my computer screen without my glasses.

Without my glasses or contacts, I am legally blind.
I consider this completely separate from the above. People in the previous category could function reasonably well without glasses or contacts. People in this category need them. They literally, can't see otherwise. My sister has been this way for almost as long as I can remember. I heard it described as finger vision. She couldn't see your hand in front of her face and count your fingers.

I only need glasses to see at a distance.
For those who can't see at a distance without their glasses. Added this to fill a gap that some comments noticed.

So Escapists, How bad is your eyesight?
Also, feel free to share funny stories that relate to your vision or just discuss eyesight in general.

Okay, I know I'm blind, but for some reason the forth option is cut off in the survey. Yet, not in the results. I tried fixing it with an edit, but it doesn't seem to get fixed...

Edit: And now it does. Weird.
Thanks for the replies so far! Keep them coming.

I need glasses to read at a distance. Also reading glasses improve my vision, but I can do just fine without them. I rarely use them actually, it's not comfortable adjusting to them after not having worn them for long periods of time.

So I'm just a little blind.

I need reading glasses... but I mean I really need them. I used to be nearsighted, but after cataract surgery my eyes don't focus anymore and so I can't see anything within a few feet. On the plus side, it is nice to be able to find my glasses when they fall on the floor...

I have "perfect" eyesight, but I get a flash in my right eye that they haven't been able to figure out, and it doesn't always correlate with my migraines. I checked to make sure its not a torn something, though...

I can see without my glasses, just not see detail. Like, if I was driving I wouldn't be unable to see objects on the road, just not the signs.

After being tested for what kind of glasses I needed my optometrist said, "A human being should not have eyesight that good."

If I take my glasses off, I can only see things in sharp detail about...*tests*...half a metre from my face. Then it just all goes a bit fuzzy. And then really fuzzy. The far end of my room is an interesting collection of coloured blobs.

I CAN see without my glasses, but it is pretty blurry.
I wouldn't be able to read a sign or watch tv from across the room. But I could get by pretty easily.

Sometimes when light hits my face in a certain way, I can actually see little black squiggles, like my eyeballs are covered in scratches.
So that's cool.

My eyes are vastly different, but I ended up voting the "Not terrible" otpion. Glasses improve my right eye very slightly, but my left eye falls into the "Do you see that big E" category. I'm a little long-sighted (can't read text any closer than about 7cm from my face) but that is barely noticable.

Only one of my eyes needs a prescription. Still working on finding a monocle.... although the eye that needs a prescription only needs a reading glass prescription and I can legally drive without my glasses, even assuming I lost my good eye.

I need glasses for the board, for cinema and for TV. I can see clearly for a long distance but things get slightly fuzzy and I can't recognise faces more than 20 feet away.

Mine's not perfect, but they didnt want to give me glasses because it wasnt THAT bad... If I were to have glasses there would be like no strength in them. Even though I'd like to have glasses (damn sexy) I think it's lame to walk around with em if you dont really need them.

I too have bad eyesight. I can read without them, however I start to feel very ill when I do, it's bizarre.

My left eye is +5.5 and my right is +6.
