I like his science videos, never been much interested in the ?why people laugh at creationists? series. I suppose it?s because there are other people, who do that sort of thing, I prefer.
How about the point that Islam expects to be immune to criticism when it isn't or that Islam is discriminative by it's very nature.kickyourass said:Ampersand said:How exactly does that make sense? What didn't you understand? He has not made as many valid points on the topic of Islam, as he did on the topic of Creationists. What part of that passed you by?
Check out "Aronra" if you haven't already.PurplePlatypus said:I like his science videos, never been much interested in the ?why people laugh at creationists? series. I suppose it?s because there are other people, who do that sort of thing, I prefer.
The reason it's less ok when he makes those statements about say Islam then when he makes them about creationists, is because, creationists are a sub group within the religions, and Islam is an entire religion. Similarly, the Muslims who go ape shit in the Middle East or Indonesia (places that aren't exactly wellsprings of rationality) when to comes to their faith DO NOT represent the Muslims in the West, but TF is constantly taking the actions of people in THOSE places, and he tries to apply them to the Muslims HERE. You can say that Creationists aren't rational when they live in scientifically advanced places like the UK or whatever, but still they refuse to believe a word of it, but you cannot say that all Muslims are irrational if the only example you're going to use are people who live in a country where fanaticism is practically required by law. Now if he had pointed to some kind of mass protest in America or Western Europe that is similar to those found in the Middle East, then he might have a better position, but he didn't, so he doesn't.Ampersand said:How about the point that Islam expects to be immune to criticism when it isn't or that Islam is discriminative by it's very nature.kickyourass said:Ampersand said:How exactly does that make sense? Those are just the points that I remember off the top of my head, and it seems that the first one is eerily applicable to you.
On top of that there are very few points he's made about christians or other chreationists that arn't also true about muslims if not more so, but for some reason whenever they are made with reference to muslims suddenly it's not ok.
No offence but that's a cop-out and you know it. Are you trying to say that Muslim countries are some kind of lost cause and if they threaten our right to free speech then it's fine because they don't know any better?(Not to mention the violations of human rights that the muslim faith inflicts upon it's own members)No one is immune to criticism.kickyourass said:The reason it's less ok when he makes those statements about say Islam then when he makes them about creationists, is because, creationists are a sub group within the religions, and Islam is an entire religion. I'm a christian and I personally don't care what he thinks, It's the moron's (the guy he's ripping) fault for posting crap on the internet. Seriously, what was he expecting? An AA group for disgruntled Christians who are laughed at for making stupid points.Dexiro said:I just watched a few of his videos expecting a troll but he actually seems like a very intelligent guy.
It's common for Christians to see Atheistic videos as "attacks" on your beliefs but you have to get used to the fact that they're usually being perfectly reasonable.
Of course I'm not saying that, I'm saying that if you're trying to say that the Muslims in Western countries are irrational, you can't use Muslims in Middle Eastern countries to back that up. Not only because they aren't Western countries, but they are also the most extreme members of the religion, and you can't judge an entire group of people just from the craziest of the crazy within that group.Ampersand said:No offence but that's a cop-out and you know it. FYI: Muslims are chreationists, even in western countries. Which is irrelevant because faith by it's nature is irrational so claiming that one religious group is more rational then another is a moot point.
you know, your avatar kinda fits perfectly. xDLes Awesome said:you know the youtuber whos always bashing Christians, Muslims and other non-atheists
How Do You Feel About Him
personally I think hes a racist self centred asshole
I could see why you wouldn't want someone to do that. It might come across as insulting and childish to project a shallow belief about a person or group. It doesn't lead to understanding or productive dialog, just more name calling and generalizations...SimuLord said:He's the poster child for why I tolerate religious zealots more than I tolerate atheists. I'd rather have someone yelling at me why their god is better than my gods than someone who suggests I have an intellectual deficiency for being a man of strong faith.
Yep, be pretty annoying for someone to do that.SimuLord said:I find as a general matter that atheists are the preachiest of all. As a man of faith myself, it comes off as insecurity and makes me think that denying one's spirituality can't be good for one's mental health (and indeed I was an atheist until finding the gods at age thirty and I've been much more tolerant of other faiths, even those radically different from my own, since then.)
Atheists come off as ignorant of one of the most basic elements of our humanity---the ability we have to look beyond ourselves and see reality in the permanently unprovable. It is a sense of wonder that cannot be so easily replaced by pure reason (which may in turn explain so many atheists' dogma about science---lacking an outlet for their spirit they find one in a very religion-like approach to empirical proof.)
