I'm from Texas, so I say "Mee-Lee", even thought I'm pretty sure that isn't the "correct" pronunciation. Damn French, always pronouncing their vowels wrong.

According to the three dictionary sites I just its Mey-Ley which would be akin to May-Lay from the list in the poll.

(I voted before looking it up.)

I used to think Me-lee for the combat style, but Meh-lay for the tournament type thingy. You live and learn.

I shall make a point of using the correct pronunciation from now on.

Also. The first time I saw it was written down without accents, so I guess that accounts for why I think of it as two separate words.

I pronounce it meh-lay. And don't give me that crap about 'BUT ITS NOT SPELLED LIKE THAT.'

Try pronouncing gnome how it's spelled. Or knocking. Or pterodactyl.

Lol.

Twould you now? I'm sure you twould.

The ' over é makes an 'Ay' sound, but it's excluded American English to make things easier on soft brains.

At the core it is NOT spelled "melee" but mêlée, pronounced "Maelay"

And please forgive me for pretending this is an American thing, but the mention of "your language" implied that you share the American idea of "my country, everyone else is a scummy intruder who ca''''''nt speke porpre Nglish" and stood out like a sore thumb and essentially crashed your argument against hot concrete.

"may lay"

It sounds weird to me if pronounced any other way. I have a buddy that pronounces it "me-lee" and it sometimes takes me a minute to figure out what he means, haha.

The French and American pronounciation is may-lay.

The English and Australia proper/most used pronounciation seems to be mel-ay.

Technically neither of them are wrong...or at least thats what my English teacher and a lot of the English experts on Yahoo answers say.
Well I'm Australian but I pronounce it may-lay.

when I was younger I used to say mee-lee but then I changed to may-lay.

"Meh-lay"

Because its the "correct" way to pronounce it...

Assigning a long E sound to both "e" and "ee"? Madness
Wait... why would I pronounce "lay" as a long E. Based on how it's spelled, it should be a long A. According to Google Translator's text to speech, it should be the long E, but still.

Unless your language is french i suggest you relinquish your claim of ownership.

OT May-lay ofc. Because... that's just how it's supposed to be pronounced xD
(Btw that's not me saying anyone who does differently is wrong. Dialect is dialect yo. But you can't deny how something was intended to be said. Oh apart from MEH LEH... da fuck is that? :p)

"May-Lay." I didn't know there was any other way to pronounce it.
OT: the pronunciation of Coupon is an ongoing thing with me and my friends. How do the escapists say Coupon? "Q-Pon" or "Koo-Pon"
I say "Koo-Pon"
