I have read the books also so I do know the back story I just wished it was shown in the game. Your point on the Battle Rifle I know it is good but it's poor ammo consumption and lack of ammo drops for it makes it a bad weapon atleast in my eyes. Although when you do it hit is powerful but you need to make every shot with that gun count or else you will not like it.

The first plot point you quoted was regarding Halo 1-2 which was not explained in the game at all. Only in Halo 3 can you make sense of it. Also on second plot point I do know that he jumped from the ship but how he got out of the ship without being seen and with no fight at all is pretty big plot point. Keeping in mind the biogenitc engineering to them the falling out of the sky is pretty piss poor way of him meeting up with them as they could of used the level as a tutorial with the Chief sneaking out of the ship via escape pod which would have linked the games much more fluidly.
I'm not sure what his modifications have to do with him falling out of the sky...But I do get your point. I think the reason they didn't do a tutorial mission was mainly because as the third game in the serious, it would be fairly pointless for someone to play it before the other two games. It might have been cool to escape from the ship, but not in halo 3, it should have been the last mission in Halo 2. Also, on the first bit, what do you mean about halo 1 and 2? Which plot point, exactly? If you mean after the end of Halo: Combat Evolved, The Master Chief pilots a Longsword Fighter out of the Pillar of Autumn and away from the Halo structure. If I misread, please tell me. (Of course that still doesn't say exactly how he gets back to earth..)

I understand that you can't take many shots with the armor as it is not the best protection when the shield is down but amount you can take is sheer staggeringly small. I'd rather they kept Halo CE's health system than the full regenerative health as it makes more sense. I mean Marines take more punishment than you.
I do agree here though. I really liked the Health + Shield part of the game.
I was talking about Master Chief and Johnson magically appearing back on Earth. The bit between Halo 1 and 2 that the book First Strike(I think) covers. As this isn ot explained after Master Chief leaves Halo in the games anyway. When you quote my point you said it as if I was talking about the gap between Halos 2 and 3 just wating to clarify we were talking about same plot point.

The only one I really enjoyed was Halo 1. The rest were...not so great... The best I can say about the series is that it is competently made from a technical standpoint. I enjoyed playing through the first one just as something to pass my time. Though I try not to, I sometimes take offense to the idea that its story and characters are anything special.

Why is there no 'meh' option? Cause don't give a monkey's about the Halo series
I guess the OP counts every member of the escapist that DOESN'T vote as a "meh".

I enjoyed the multiplayer whenever there was like 10 of us to get a link up goin, but the single player was nothing special imo

I was just wondering what is everyone's opinion of the Halo franchise?

For those who don't know Halo consists of the Following games:

Halo
Halo 2
Halo 3
Halo Wars
Halo: ODST

Personally I thought Halo 2 and 3 were good but not great, I loved the other 3 though.

What is your opinion? :)
I was never really a huge fan. I just jumped on the "ohh, it's so shiny!" bandwagon and bought Halo 3. The multiplayer is nothing special and the story campaign is also no big deal. I also bought Halo: ODST and think it's a bit hard on heroic and it's just doesn't clikc for me.

I picked up Halo 3 as my gateway into the world of Xbox 360. I think the multiplayer is sheer perfection, with perfectly balanced weapons and great maps. It's a game where you can have fun messing around in Custom Games or going hardcore with Team Doubles with a friend. The Campaign is ok, but the online is where it really shines. For me anyway.

And yes, 10 year olds with headsets should just be quiet. They are annoying as hell, and for some reason seem to be found in abundance where Halo is concerned.

It's fun and entertaining, but this is not the be all and end all game many make it out to be.

Halo is the greatest game ever! I've never played any of the games (seriously, not one of them), but how can you not love a game that gave us Red vs. Blue (www.redvsblue.com)?

I'm not touching those, because there is only room for a PC in my heart and if I can't play the whole series on my PC, then it's on the ignore-list.
Well you should at least give the original a try. It's not like it's not a self contained story. When I played CE it was before Halo 2 came out and I had no idea there was a sequel planned so it's not really fair to say "I can't play them all so I'll just play NONE." At least you'll get to see what all the fuss is about. I bet it costs like $5 off eBay these days.
See the problem is that I'm a completionist and feel like I "must" complete an entire series if there are sequels. That and I'm studing at a university so I don't really have the time either.

Oh, I completely understand. I do that a lot as well, but I make exceptions to feed curiosity. I can also understand the lack of time. I hate that I can't play every single game that gets released any more and that I have to prioritize and pick a few :(

Halo: Combat Evolved - Absolutely awesome at the time.
Halo 2 - Great, but when the celebrities showed up and stuff, seeds of doubt were planted.
Halo 3 - Good, but the amount of hype was so bad, it was like a parody of the gaming industry.
Halo 3: ODST - Awesome new view on Halo, gameplay wasn't really any different. Why was it a standalone game?
Halo Wars - The RTS made for FPS players.

I have high hopes for Halo: Reach, but that's probably a bad idea...

Loved the first one, I bought an Xbox just from a coworker's description of the game.
The second one pissed me off to no end (finished the story in one day, all the aliens speak English now?) and I never got around to playing the third all the way through.
Haven't played any others.

Its fun.
I enjoy it, sorta.
I find it semi-difficult on the harder difficulties.. Heroic / Legendary
I want to buy HALO 3 and HALO Wars
Then I have all of the games.

Halo 1: A good game and they easily could've ended the story there. It makes no mention of any other rings.

Halo 2: Expanded stuff nicely but was way too easy due to having no health meter

Halo 3: Same as above

Halo Wars: Didn't play

Halo: ODST: Waste of money, painfully short

All in all... It's fine. Doesn't stay fresh forever, I think I'm done with the whole thing at this point. Just sucks that it'll be used as a point of reference for devs for a while
