The Mohs scale of hardness determines how hard a mineral is. With some modification (even the hardest metal bands don't scratch glass, one of the tests from the actual scale), this system can be modified to apply to musical hardness. The 'scapist only allows 8 poll options, so I had to squish the scale slightly to fit, because it's out of 11.

The scale only really works for rock and metal though, so keep that in mind.

I mostly prefer seven or eight, although I like the occasional nine. Past that there's just too much growling and screaming.

It's advised to skip to the middle or so of the techno songs, as they have dull intros.

God I live They might be giants. I'd say anything up to about four or five in general.
I can't really understand how people can listen to ultra-hard blackmetal and actually enjoy it, to my ears it just sounds like a mess of unpleasant noise.

Mostly between a 9-10. Probably the majority is at 9.

Normally I'd say something like "it's so heavy it goes to TWELVE" but I realise that Anal **** is an 11 and things of that ilk are just a mess of sound with no coherency, rhythm or, in fact, music.

Something along the lines of
best represents my general choice.

somewhere between Guns'n'Roses and Iron Maiden(6-8), I mostly listen to Megadeth and Pantera so I guess that's where my choice ends up, but I also listen to a lot of soundtracks,blues(Stevie ray Vaughan) etc.

Quite a big jump between 10 and 11 there.
And anal **** are just shit really, in terms of production/everything so I don't know how heavy they are.

Eh, I guess around 10 then, by that scale.

This would be the heaviest stuff I'd listen to I'd imagine:

Most of the music I listen to would be somewhere around 7-8, but I reckon it depends entirely on the band. I'm willing to go as far as 10, but 11 is just too much.

I like it all up until 7-ish, then I pretty much stop. Currently, the hardest song I listen to is this one:
That's the exception though, though I do bloody love that song.
