Awesome, thanks. I feel bad for Owens, actually. A lot of people hate him, because twice he's replaced two really good metal vocalists, but he's actually a great singer.

Anyway, thanks again for the recommendation.
If you like Owens, you should also check out Beyond Fear and Charred Walls Of The Damned. Both only released one album, same name as the respective bands. They were Owens latest projects, both have kinda died. Poor guy just can't get a break. Also, he was on one track of Avantasia's latest album, The Wicked Symphony (Scales Of Justice), and I'd recommend Avantasia as well lol. They're a great Power Metal band, always have a ridiculous amount of guest musicians. It's basically the lineup of Edguy, plus some guests, if you've heard Edguy.
If you haven't joined the Metal group, it seems you'd fit right in.

Thanks for that, just joined.

I've heard Edguy and liked them, got one album of theirs (don't have my iPod nearby but I believe it to be called Tinnitus Sanctus, or something similar). It came with live versions of a bunch of their songs, pretty awesome.

I'll check out those other bands.

I guess I'm a 7. I like my music fast, but I prefer upbeat over dark. I also prefer it when singers have a pitch. While I listen to some metal groups with Black metal vocalists, I consider it a drawback, compensated for by excellent instruments. Equilibrium is a prime example.

Mine never really goes above 6 or 7 (maybe 8, i dunno) expect on rare occasion if a song happens to have a kick-ass beat to it.

10 and 11 are unlistenable and barely qualify as music.
Lies, all lies. Your opinion on music, and EVERYONE's opinion on music are ENTIRELY subjective.

Rap and Hip-Hop for example, in my opinion, are unlistenable and barely qualify as music.
And some people are exceedingly defensive about the music they like.
And some people are so defensive about their music, that they make claims about other genres to try and put their music on a gold platter so they can feel better about themselves.

So tell me, do you listen to that crap because you're angry, or are you angry because you listen to that crap?

I guess I'm around 6-7 maybe going up to 8 a bit... Depends on the band and their sound really "hardness" has nothing to do with it really.

I'd go mosstly with 6-7, although I do like some less hard music like Hendrix, Led Zeppelin and Bob Marley. I also know one or two, such as Airbourne or Dragonforce, who could be in the 8 region.

Incidentally, if your going to compare this scale to the Mohs scale, you should only have ten levels.
There are for most normal music, but more levels had to be added to prevent the Beatles from being lumped in with Cattle Decapitator and etc.

I usually listen to Disturbed, which I'd say is a 7.8(?)

When I'm gaming, I'll tolerate up to about 10ish.
Disturbed is like 1.
Eh? Are we talking about the same thing?

You can't put Disturbed lower than a six...
Can put it below 1.

If 10-11 is maximum, Disturbed cant even come close to being that high.

It is a very soft band, no harsh sounds or atmospheres at all.
I'll just leave this here:

They can't come close to 10 or 11, but that's the point of having a scale. You seem to be rating things as 'heavy' or 'not heavy'. Either that or you're just joking, which I think must be more likely.
So in their production they made sure that their chugging is particularly audible and heard.

How does that even make them harsh?

Their on 1, their a very soft band, their sounds are very mainstream and accessible, anyone can handle those sounds.

Here is something that goes up to 5-6:

And here is an 8.

Did you even look at the examples in the link? Smoke on the Water is on level 5. Disturbed is definitely "harder" than Smoke on the Water.
Disturbed is lighter than Deep Purple.

But smoke on the water is far too high, because if its at 5, we need a 20-30.
Again, the scale goes way beyond ten, it's just that ten is the standard cut-off point, and beyond that the music tends to get so, well, odd it's hard to tell if it's heavier than another band at all. Know what I mean? If it's beyond 11, it's beyond 11, and there's no sense in numbering it anymore.
