You need an "other" option.
In fact grey and gray mean different things.
Gray is more of the simple color, with no shades or tints - just simple, default gray.
Grey is more of the complex, abstract meaning - used when relating to morality and stuff like that.

If pressed and couldn't say 'either' I'd go with grey, only because I read the book "The Picture of Dorian Grey".

You mean the color right? "Grey" it just really sounds like it should be g(ray).

I meant the color, and both forms are used to spell it.

Well, yes, but that sounds so boring.

Depends whether you're British or American. I'm British, so it's 'grey'.

EDIT: Argh, okay, alright, fine, some other places including parts of America spell it 'grey' as well, stop quoting me already.

Mark Twain said it best, "I don't give a damn for a man who can spell a word only one way."

And yes, I probably paraphrased. And no, I can't say I truly agree with him. As for myself... Need I really say it? Bah! I will regardless; I spell it grey and always have. Doesn't matter with me how anyone spells it though.

This is the correct reasoning. While I am American, I will use "grey" anyways, because that looks better to me.
