In the colour sense? (yes I spell colour with a U)... I use E.

However I do have a friend who's surname is Gray.

Grey is the English spelling, which is used everywhere but the US. Gray is the American spelling. You might as well have a thread about who is American or not.

I think grey looks nicer, but my spell check always bitches at me for it so I usually give in and switch it to gray.

I once wrote "Grey" on a spelling test and it got marked wrong. The teacher said "That's another right way to spell it, but it's not the way I was thinking of."

My English teacher put this on a test. I always hated her.... Anyway, I think I usually gray, because when I type really fast, it comes out a gary.... or sometimes gery, so it might be grey... I don't know, stop asking me hard questions!

You need an "other" option.
In fact grey and gray mean different things.
Gray is more of the simple color, with no shades or tints - just simple, default gray.
Grey is more of the complex, abstract meaning - used when relating to morality and stuff like that.
actually they are interchangable: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/grey?r=75

I tend to spell it gray just because my fingers prefer to go to the A instead of the E. On the odd occasion though I will go for the E instead of the A.
