I'm not sure how many times I've mentioned this but I've had numerous problems with a few consoles, I treat them exceptionally well, I don't smoke, I don't hit my consoles, I dust them with a cloth and yet I get problems.

I've lost six Xbox 360's in five months (thank the computer god for bestbuy's warrenty), three PS2's in 5 years and one Xbox1. This is only highlighted by my friends luck with their consoles, one has a launch PS2 and used the heck out of it, another abused his PS2 (kicking it, tossing it) and they still worked, my other friend JUST lost his 360 and sent it in, but man I've got some horrible, horrible luck with this.

I know there was a reason for the 360 and the PS2, and microsoft did help out when they realized their error, but I've had my Genesis since 1991 and it's never needed fixing, cleaning replacement parts or updating,. (the last one was just poking fun at gaming today) Sure there's less moving parts in it but that's just crazy to me that it's lasted so long. Honestly these are the only systems I've had to replace ever, I consider myself to be indifferent to the consoles I have, I don't care who made 'em as long as they have good games.

Who else has had major consoles failures? If so, have any good stories to share?

Ive had my 360 fail 4 times now, this last time, being a newly poor college student (and not knowing where the local fed-ex is) I decided to balls up and fix it myself. It works now and I can strip an xbox in 2 mins. Hooray for useless talent!

ps. I did fix it and continue to fix other peoples for cheap

I think I'm gonna get one of those knock off systems I saw on the Web that plays SNES and NES games. I only have one NES game though (Bad Dudes) but it'll be good to play and remember how to not make a game.

I'm a bad enough dude to buy a new system.
The best one I heard was the one that played Genesis, SNES and NES games, it was the most "accurate"

Before the advent of the stinky piece of crap that is the Xbox360 console failure was an unknown event to me. My launch PS2 is STILL going, my old PS 1 (I am reliably informed as my brother now has it) is STILL going.

I have had one Xbox360 die on me once, and another die on me twice.

Only had an NES, PS, and a PS2 and none failed... guess I'm one of the lucky ones ^_^;; Or maybe I don't play as much as people who's console fails often?

Had my 360 for over 1 and a half years and it's fine. The secret is keeping the dust out ;)
How does one properly do that?

My first 360 was one of those scratchy bastards, but it didn't become a problem right away. Then I lost Bioshock to the beast. Called up MS who said mine was out of warranty. Rubbish, I thought as I dug through my collected receipts, tax returns and assorted detritus, only to discover that my xbox receipt was nowhere to be found.

I could have just fixed the thing myself or paid someone to do it for me, but I decided instead to just get a new system, one with HDMI out. Then I discovered that HDMI looks worse than HD component. On the plus side, the new system doesn't sound like a 747 taking off, runs cooler and hasn't given me any problems... yet.

Even after this, I still prefer the thing to every other console in the history of consoles.

Believe me, I treat my systems well, I'm guessing I got a bad run of systems, I'm just glad I had a warrenty where I could get a new system quickly.

I'm honestly not surprised when I see that so many people have had good luck as I'm the only one of my friends who's had to replace a system so many times. I love my PS2 and my 360 for their games but I've hated them for their poor build quality. Then again this seems to be a freak thing to get more than two RRODs

My orginal Gameboy dies after about 15 years of service, not bad going. My N64 died a while back, but it was dodgy when I bought it so it was no surprise.

Unfortunately, given how many problems they are currently having running my games I'd say my XBox and Dreamcast are on their last legs also.
