Never touched an Elder Scrolls game, yet I am excited as hell for Skyrim. Always wanted to try the series out but haven't been able to yet.

Not excited but I played. I'm curious about the werewolf thing and it does look pretty but I don't expect a lot from Bethesda. Just hoping that it's better than Oblivion.

Call it a bit scientifically inaccurate, but I'm not too excited for it, although I'm going with a friend who pre-ordered it to pick it up with him.

I have, since around 2007. It was first introduced to me as 'like World of Warcraft, but on the PS3'. That turned out to be wrong.

I have no idea about the prequels though.

I played it a little bit. I didn't enjoy it, or at least not as much as my brother absolutely adored it.

I'm still super excited about Skyrim, but as I've mentioned on a few Skyrim threads here, I was not that interested until I played the actual demo at Eurogamer Expo, and loved it.

Maybe I didn't "get" what I was supposed to be expecting from Oblivion, while I did get what Skyrim was a bout (Since my brother kept going on about it). Open-world, Classless, Main story is less than secondary, your "story" is made up of the random unexpected stuff you come across. Maybe I expected Oblivion to be like any other Western RPG with structured quests and a story-driven game, and was simply disappointed /alienated when I didn't find it.

Yeah, I finished it (the main quest that is) twice when it first came out. I also went back not so long ago to try do some more of the side stuff, but it didn't hold my attention for to long. The game has not aged at all well, so I'm really looking forward to the updates of Skyrim.

I played Oblivion, which is why I'm NOT excited for Skyrim. It looks like they've made a prettier Oblivion with a superfluous new spellcasting system in addition to their magic system, and then added the option for dual wielding. It looks interesting, and it certainly won't be a bad game, but it hasn't shown me anything that Oblivion or even Morrowind hasn't. At at least Morrowind wasn't ripping anyone else's art style off. Oblivion was cliche medieval fantasy and Skyrim is going to be cliche norse fantasy. I don't know what the hell to call Morrowind, so at least it's original.

Sure did - my total playtime for both my Oblivion characters is touching 300 hours and Skyrim looks infinitely superior, so I'm hyped as hell.

I played it, and I am excited for Skyrim, but I'm more excited about AC: Revelations. Why did two big interesting open world games such as these have to come out within four days of each other? I'm gonna need a clone just so my hyperactive mind doesn't keep shunting from Skyrim to Constantinople/Istanbul. Love both serie but could the timing be worse? /rant. Can't wait to get back to a TES game, it has been a while.

I did, but I cheated pretty much through the whole thing. I glitched whenever I could (especially that infinite money glitch you can get early on) and also wound up with total/infinite invisibility, I think it involved another glitch or exploit. I also didn't really level up more than a couple times. I also didn't play it on an HDTV.

So in short, I played it, but I did everything wrong.

I kept meaning to get back to it, but I just never did. And now that Skyrim's almost out, I don't know if I ever will, unless Skyrim is really a step back.

Now, Fallout 3 and Fallout NV I played a couple times each, correctly, on an HDTV.

i didn't get to play it all the way because of xbox problems (and dont give me pro-computer crap, i CANT play pc games), and now that i have my own, i can't get my hands on it to finish it, but it'll happen someday.
and im very excited!!!!! oblivion was a friggin' sloppy mess compared to how skyrim looks, but it was top-notch in its time.

I have never played Oblivion, but am probably going to get Skyrim at or soon after launch. I honestly don't know why I haven't played it... it has been on my list to play for literally years, but I have just never got round to it. I have played Fallout 3 and loved it, but never Oblivion for some reason (even though it appeals to me far more than Fallout).

I'd imagine most Escapists who are psyched for a new Beth game have played Oblivion, Morrowind or both.

I understand why people who didn't like Oblivion would be hyped for Skyrim... it looks prettier, has dragons and the combat seems greatly improved.
^This. Also to add to your second point, the environment is more varied, less generic and more Morrowierd and there are a LOT more voice actors (some of the main complaints about Oblivion).

OT: Yes, I played Oblivion several times through, love the game. Prefer Morrowind for the atmosphere and certain things (Jump/Levitate spells etc.), Oblivion for the gameplay (combat, horses etc.).

I've played both Morrowind and Oblivion. Strangely I didn't like Morrowind, but LOVED Oblivion. I played Oblivion first, then went back and played Morrowind, the game moved too slow for me, I didn't like they way the world was designed, and the graphics had not aged well at all. However when it comes to Oblivion, I played the crap out of that, 3 playthroughs I did of that game, each one more epic then the last, I finished the 3rd playthrough about 3 months back. Funny I started that playthrough right before they announced Skyrim.

Oh and I'm very much excited for Skyrim. The 11th can't come fast enough!
