Hey fellow escapists, out of interest im just wondering how many hours a week do you spend exercising or playing physical sports, now im not getting into a discussion about what is and what isn't a sport but im talking about activities that get the heart beating and require effort.

The whole idea behind this thread is im curious about whether the stereotypes are true about gamers being lazy fitness-dodgers and want to find out first hand.

On a finial note, I personally spend a good 12+ hours a week on sport/exercise, with the vast majority of those hours coming down on running and just general time at the gym (im also doing a pretty intensive degree at university and regularly go out on socials - not to mention all the hours of gaming time and I can find time).

Oh and as a finial, finial note if your one of the people clocking 0 or 0-2 hours a week do you wish you exercised more or are you happy with things as they are? Cheers.

I'm at about 4 hours a week, in my own room... working out... not enough though... wish I had time for a gym, but my gaming has higher priority in my private life than working out... so, yea, wish I had less working hours and more free ones I suppose... lol

It's a pretty good first thread, don't worry. :)

Shame your poll got eaten though. :/

OT: It really depends on the weather for me. In the winter, when it's -20 degrees and slippery, I can't go jogging, so I'll bike inside. I don't enjoy it much though, so I'll probably only exercise for 25 minutes or so a day.

It also depends on if I'm playing a sport at the time. If I am, that's an extra 5+ hours a week.

I'll average it out and say about 7 hours per week though.

As of November last year I started taking the gym quite seriously. Now I spend at least two hours at the gym daily or if I am pushed for time, I'll take about an hour to do a jog along the river.

It suits my schedule fine.

As for sport, I used to swim quite a lot. I spent several hours in the pool doing laps but when my university years came around I had to drop it for more time saving activities.

i cant do gyms, because i have some issues...
and i hate sports... beacuse i dont like people :/ and because there are no sports where i live...

I play football during the season, and that's enough for me really.

I hate going to the gym, tried it a few times but it's just awful. Boring and not motivating whatsoever.

I don't really do sports or gyms (they're too clinical, I think) but my new year's resolution was to lose weight so I'm now on a rowing machine for about 20 minutes a day, unless something on the TV keeps me going longer. I watched The A Team on Saturday and ended up going for 45 minutes. After that I usually do a few rounds of weights and pressups.

Congrats on your first thread my friend. Welcome to the Escapist! We may bite, but it isn't hard. You get used to it, and in the end it is quite pleasant.
I spend every Friday for an hour non stop martial arts, and practice what I learn throughout the week. I used to run, but haven't in a while.
On that note, can anyone give me an exercise idea that will get me working out again? I'm doing fist push ups on hard ground to toughen my knuckles up, but I need MOAR.
Also some positive reinforcement never hurts.

I had to quote you and say that's damn impressive. Good work. How much does a rower cost?

I play ultimate frisbee 6+ hours a week (more for weekend tournaments)

And for those who doubt how active that sport is:

(Don't worry the annoying voices shut up after 25 seconds or so)

Um... I dunno. I don't play any sports at all seeing as... well, I hate sports but I do exercise a fair bit, I suppose.

Maybe 4 - 6 hours a week(?) Is that good? >>

Hmm, I spend a good few hours a day pushing a pushchair or running around like an idiot to entertain a 21month old. But I don't go out of my way to do sport and excercising.

But my walks keep me fit enough.

I'm not sure, my parents bought it a few years ago.

I do 4 hours of martial arts training five to six days a week. I do about an hours worth of jogging on a morning and then I do about an hour or two of weight training at home. So according to my calculator I do 45 hours of exercise a week. Wow... Didn't think of it like that.

Ho, I also do 12 3 minute rounds working the bag so I think that puts me at about 45 1/2 hours of exercise a week.

It used to be about 12 hours, but now it's lowered to about 7 or 8 since I stopped playing American Football.

Weightlifting at the campus gym 3-4 times a week, pick-up soccer once a week (if possible). That's about 8-10 hours a week.
