What interests me is how some Bronies do not want to try out any anime. It's not like there is that much of a jump between the two.

I've tried to get into anime but I just can't, it's the crappy animation that gets me most.

Whenever a character is talking everything in the entire image is still except for their mouth, if you're lucky they might raise their arm or turn their head halfway through a soliloquy but that's about it.

Also, the very concept of an entire genre where everything is drawn in pretty much the exact same style seems kind of silly to me, surely it's much better to have variety? When I first saw a manga comic I thought it looked pretty cool and hadn't seen anything like it before, but then I discovered there's an entire industry pumping it out.

Throw in the horrible dubs and the fact that subtitles are kind of lame, and the fact that most of it seems to be targeted at 14 year old boys (and I'm not one of them anymore), and you have a recipe for me not liking it. I really don't understand how its so popular. No hate, just confusion.

I actually used to be a total weeb. Now I almost cannot stomach any anime. I still love the series that I enjoyed previously (Yu-Gi-Oh, Death Note, DBZ, Ouran Host Club), but I CANNOT get into new anime at all.

So I dunno what to answer for your actual poll. XD Sorry!

"Devil May Cry - The Animated Series" is the only anime I ever liked, everything else is meh (I really tried finding a word that would not insult the fans of this genre).

Due to all of the classic shows, nostalgia and awesome fandoms anime has given me over the years, I have to say that officially, yes, I like it.

Right now I've grown tired of it though. It's gotten a bit tedious for me.

I don't really know enough about Anime to judge it. I'm sure that just like any other medium there's a great deal of shit being produced, but I'm sure I could find something I like if I look into it. I'm rather fond of Lucky Star actually, for example.

Anime isn't a genre. It can be anything. Sci-Fi, Western, Horror, slice of life.

Sorry, it's just a pet peeve of mine when people assume animation is a genre that is set to do one thing.

That's not entirely true. There is plenty of anime that's made for adults, just the fact that it's animated makes it seem childish. There's plenty of thought provoking stuff that's quite applicable to an adult audience. but much of it is rather childish. lol

OT: I love anime. I've been having more and more trouble finding good series' that are really engaging, though, as I've watched most of the good ones I've found.

I can't really vote for either; there are some specific animes I like, but overall there are more aspects of the genre I dislike (i.e. surrealism, hyperactive editing, general bizareness) than aspects I do like (i.e. unapologetic violence, highly expresive animation).

Most animation (assuming we're including the Japanese kind) actually has a significant amount of shows ranging from the young teen to young adult demographic. Pre-teen/Children is actually a smaller category. Even in western animation (where the majority is targeted at children) there are a number of examples that either breach demographics or are specifically targeted at teenage-young adults. Family Guy, Simpsons, Futurama, South-park, and so forth are all western animations that are certainly not targeted at the pre-teen or child demographic. Most Disney and Pixar movies are good examples where demographics are breached. That is while the targeted demographic is children they are made such that other demographics will enjoy them as well.

In all honesty the demographic range for animation and in particular Japanese animation is actually very similar to what video-games currently are.

I'm actually a big fan of anime (animation in general). However there are many things about anime I dislike especially when looking at Japanese animation. The biggest example of this would be the bleeding of otaku merchandising into genres and stories that would be good or are still good despite it.

The epitome of this would be the following. I read a story outline of an anime I'm interested in. I think the premise is interesting. I start watching the anime. The anime then proceeds to have random boob and panty shots take up screen time. Then some of the actual story. Then more panty shots. That is rather infuriating and makes me want to strangle people.

Like any other variety of animation, it's mostly crap but their are several gems depending on your tastes.

As usual, I'll always recommend Nodame Cantabile.

...Really? I always got the impression a lot of it was aimed at teens. Maybe I just watched the teen demographic when I was a teen, but a lot of the anime I've seen has blood, gore, and often reference to sex in it.
I did say pre-teens and teens did I not?

Of course cartoons can be thought provoking, I'm not saying that. The thing is, a lot of cartoons appeal to the younger audience because that's where the money's at.

To be honest, my problem with anime aren't the cartoons themselves but more the fanbase. Fuck it's full of obnoxious motherfuckers and that's a fucking understatement.

I've watched anime since I was a little girl. I'm not sure I can pinpoint what turned me onto it.

The action and animation looks nice... it can be hilarious. More so than some western animation. Oh and the opening themes are always groovy. Well, most of the time.

Can't think of anything really specific though.

It's actually more in line with what we have here in the west.

I like it but not to the point of being a fanatic over it. I have certain shows I like watching and I'm less caring about what that art style is as long as it looks good and has a decent story to it.
