Poll: how many pc gamers hate the half life series?

I was having a discussion with my friend about pc gaming the other day and he made a comment that "the half life series is like god to pc gamers". out of things I have heard and read from other people I know that half life has a massive following but there are also many people who hate the game for their own reasons.

If you are a pc gamer do you like half life? Do you like half life if you are a console gamer?

Half Life 1 was a great game.
Half Life 2 (And episodes, because since the episodes are meant to be part of 2, the game has actually taken longer to come out than Duke Nukem Forever) is a wretched abomination and a cancer upon gaming.

Half Life 1 was slightly above average.
Everything else is sub-par at best.

I'm also a predominately PC gamer, if that matters at all.

I like them, Half-Life 2 isn't some sort of ambrosia in game form though.
I'm also annoyed at Valve and the whole Episode 3 fiasco.

I do not hate Half Life 1/2etc
I just think they're kind of boring. In my own opinion, probably Valves worst work.

In the same way that David Camerons 'worst film', Titanic, was also his most successful.

I don't hate the games. Hates a stupid word to apply it to. I mean, if you see it and instantly fill with rage and anger than go ahead, but don't like would make more sense.

I don't like the games. People say they were brilliant for their time. They were average. I actually thought dark cloud was a damn sight more innovative than half life and it was a damn dungeon crawler.

Hate would be far too strong a word... as would love. I played and enjoyed the first game, which was alright for its time... but then I was introduced to the Unreal engine. From that point forward, I couldn't stand anything built upon Half-Life's physics engine, because the physics just weren't there.
I got bored of Half-Life 2 about half an hour in. It took "silly yet inexplicably serious" to a whole new level, at least among games I've actually played. So, indifferent... and yes, I'm almost exclusively a PC gamer. My PS3 rarely gets used as more than a media player.
Portal and Portal 2 though? Brilliant.

I really liked the original Half-Life, every aspect of the game worked well together to create a great gaming experience.

Half-Life 2 I didn't like quite so much. There isn't anything wrong with the gameplay and the variety of different sections was great. The story leaved a lot to be desired though because it didn't really work with the rest of the game in the way the original did.

I love all of the half life series. I hate how people act like its the god of all games though. Only idiots would be so bold as to claim that.

Hate is such a strong word, i say that its above-average at best, hyped-up at worst.

I think the backlash comes from the fact that PC gamers have put HL2 on such a high pedestal, that anyone new coming to the series will ultimately be disappointed.

Seriously, you do realize this is the second active thread about liking or not liking Half-Life 2 right? Good just checking.

I haven't played the first one, played the second one recently and I absolutely adore it. I think it's one of the best games released this console generation, the flow is brilliant, the pacing is perfect and the way it utilizes the first person perspective is so right it makes you wonder why nobody has copied it yet. Besides that it's the only action/shooter game I've ever played where I actually looked forward to the puzzles.

I quite enjoyed playing Half-Life 2 and episodes, they were quite fun. I don't see why it's put on such a pedestal though, it wouldn't make my top ten.

As for the first one, I was biased against it because it melted my motherboard back in about 2000, but I'm sure that now I own a computer that's actually in a case I might give it another chance.

OT: Liked Half-Life 1's gun play, AI, and atmosphere. Liked Half-Life 2's pretty-much-everything-but-gunplay and different type of atmosphere. Disliked all of Episode 1. Kinda liked Episode 2. Would be more exited if VALVe did an original IP (as well as DOTA 2) instead of Episode 3 (there I said it).

Mark this the last time I ever talk about Half-Life on the Escapist and focus on some other game like...

The first game was great, a marvel of its time. The second game and subsequent episodes were weak, and had no sense of purpose. In the first Half-Life, you're just trying to survive amidst a facility overran by aliens and a military with orders to gun you down to cover everything up. In the second, you're... rebelling against a guy, I guess, for reasons they never quite bother to spell out. The entire feeling I got going through HL2 was "Why am I doing this, again? Because everyone told me to?"

Ok, other than hyperbole of you just not liking the game, what justifies calling Half Life 2 cancer? Please, I legitimately want to know what the reason behind that is.

And saying that the episodes are taking too long to be released is not a valid reason to judge Half Life 2 badly. Just the episodes.
