What I do has been said already. I normally have 2, one thick one on the bottom and one soft one on top. If I can only have one I fold it in half.

I just use one to support my head so that my neck/spine is straight; any more than that is just uncomfortable for me.

I'm between '4+' and 'Depends on pillow'. I use 4 (or two pairs, ahem) because my current pillows are a mess, but the ones at my dad's are great and the ones at my girlfriend's are better.

1 under my head, it's of a rather good quality so I don't need more. My head can sink in as much as it needs to, it's very comfortable.
