Just out of curiosity, I keep hearing about people who have had their Xboxes quit working in various ways and about people who have had to have theirs replaced multiple times, I was wondering just how common this problem was. I seem to be one of the few people who own their original Xbox 360 that they purchased the first time, though I've run into problems with reading discs, this is usually the fault of my local game rental store not checking for scratches. As of this post I've never had a system failure that wasn't caused by a power outage. Am I just really lucky in this aspect or is this problem blown out of proportion?

If this has been done before I'm sorry, but I searched the forums and found no previous posts concerning this.

I bought one second hand which was already RROD, so I took it back and got a shiney new one.

Dont think that really counts though.

My Dad has had his for 3 years and hasnt had a problem.

I still have my original, but had a problem initially with the power brick. Was replaced pretty quickly, and they sent me PGR as a gift as well for the inconvenience. Pretty solid customer service in my opinion.

I'm interested to see how many people have had major problems. I always get the feeling that the problems are a bit overblown.

I think you should edit the title so it says 360 since the the a few first released original xbox consoles could have problems reading discs.

Anyway, I own a 360 that has been fixed once, I don't know if it was replaced or just fixed though.

I had mine replaced the exact same day as I bought it. Somehow it wouldn't read any disc at all so I googled the problem, learned it was because of somehing inside which wasn't where it was supposed to be. I took it to my retailer and complained, they made a quick test on one of their TVs in the shop and agreed that it was malfunctioning. So they instantly gave me a new one and it has worked like a charm ever since. I've even dropped the console at a point, was scared as ashit, but it didn't even get a scratch.

I find computer mice to be much more prone to malfunctioning. I've had one Logitech MX 1000 and one Steelseries Ikari laser replaced within 2 years. :(

Yeah, I've noticed that modern consoles are more and more damage-proof. I've dropped a PSP in my dog's waterbowl and it kept running. I've heard of PS2s that were run over by someone's car and were just fine, if a little more compact (that was the old version, not the thin one). As nice as it is to know they've got all us clumsy gamers covered, it'd be nicer to know they had all the hardware problems worked out before release.

They sent you a free game when they replaced the power brick? That was nice of them, almost make me wish I got the three rings of death if I knew there was a free game in it for me.

I've had one replacement for the classic RROD; I had the first one for 10 months of fairly heavy usage before failure, and this one (a refurbished model sent to replace the RRODed one) is going on 8 months now of moderate use and still going strong.

Never had a problem with the 360, the only time my fiance freaked as it red ringed, mainly to the fact he didn't plug the wires in fully XD

I had mine for 2 years and then I got the red rings of death, and it took 3 months from when I called them to when i got it back. I haven't had any problems since then.

On my second, the disc tray went AWOL on my first one, rarely opened and when it did, it'd rarely read the disc. Got an Elite now, been fine for nearly a year.

Just the one, but I bought it relatively recently (A few months ago) and I've heard that the newer ones have less issues.

My 360 itself was fine on its own. However, scared of having problems, I bought a Nyko Intercooler. The thing short circuited maybe 3 months after I bought it and fused itself to the 360. Nyko bought me a new one.

Before that I had the external hard drive fail. MS replaced it, but bye-bye all my game saves.

1, which did RROD once, but I just left it alone for the rest of the day and has been fine since then.
