Depends on the game.

For example...In Conker's Bad Fur Day the more gore the better!

but in something say Halo I dont need decapitations or amputations to have fun.

the gore in Prototype was acceptable. after all, the threat of zombies is nullified when your a very brutal superman. as long as it doesnt show the gore in excruciating detail, like God of war 3, its not so bad

I chose other because the industry can't deliever what I want.
I want, no - I need realistic gore. When I say realistic I mean realistic.
Your hand won't get blown off by a nearby shortgun. You can take one or two bullets in your kevlar vest, but the bloody modules need to change to show bullet holes. When you get shot, red stuff doesn't come out like spray in the air and then vanishes!
Therefore in order for my dream to come true it would require a game that is based solely on melee combat. Playing a first person melee combat game with realistic gore is my dream.

Spartacus: Gods of the Arena amounts of blood are good. Wouldn't mind hitting someone with a .50 cal in a game like CoD and seeing a massive hole in them or a missing head. Manhunt and things take it abit far but i enjoy realistic amounts in games that have the potential.

Oblivion w/ gore = twice as good.

CoD games with W@W gore = twice as good.

I prefer "visceral" over "gory". For example, seeing wounds on your enemies in RDR makes gunfights more satisfying, it's not gory just for the sake of it.

I usually prefer realistic gore with a couple of extra blood spurts or limbs flying everywhere because it adds satisfaction. i also think it makes games a lot more immersive if you shoot a guy and you see his arm fly off right in front of you, as oppose to him just falling down.

in games where you can cripple an opponents limb, eg. fallout, i like to have blood spurts to show that ive done so, but if the hit has no lasting effect on the enemy, then theres no point to have ridiculous amounts of gore.

I think it depends on the weapon, and the game. A little pistol shouldn't do much, but a massive shoop-da-whoop cannon should send entire limbs flying gaily through the air. If its over-the-top for comic effect, fine, but I just lose immersion if a game comes up with fountains of blood.

Depends on the game to be honest. If I'm playing something like Fallout or RDR, I don't like copious amounts of blood. However, when playing something like Mortal Kombat, trying to settle a score with a mate or something, the more blood the better! I want him to see his chosen fighter torn to pieces by my superior skill, Mwahahaha!

I like gore if it's used for comic effect, a la Fable or anything similar. If it's just gratuitous without any degree of OTT humor then It just gets kind of obnoxious.

I don't mind anything in particular, but when a stab makes your head fall off, it just gets silly.

It kinda depends on the game.

Gore tends to look stupidly unrealistic, especially in video-games, so unless it's played for laughs or for specific style I tend to prefer none at all.
Thats how I feel, pretty much all or nothing. Games like Uncharted don't really lose any thing from not having tiny blood splatters, since the characters react in ways other than bleeding to show the've been hit. Realism is overrated anyways. Counter to most of the thread I want my gore to be unrealistic.

I like the amount of gore to be suited to the kind of game I'm playing. I like sawing locust into bits in GoW but I also enjoy having no gore at all in Zelda games. I appreciate when gore is overdone for comic effect, when it is realistic or when there's none at all.

I don't like gore that is just plain out of place. Like if I jumped on a goomba and it spurted bloody everywhere while chunks of its brain hurtled across the screen. That would be stupid.

I think that when games actually DO show a realistic amount of gore it's pretty awesome. Nothing really does that except for the first 2 Soldier of Fortune games (the third one was just retarded, and also sucked bad). Shooting someone in the gut with a shotgun and having their intestines blow out is badass.

Nothing does this because it is disturbing. Real violence is fucked up. If you ever watched someone get half their face torn off with a buzzsaw you would probably throw up, and that's normal; there's all types of chunks of skin and bone and brain and other shit flying everwhere, not to mention all the blood and screaming. As videogames evolve to show off more impressive graphics I hope that they also move towards more realistic violence as well cause that will be awesome.

I know a lot of people talk about violence desensitizing us to death and stuff but I think that if we looked back a couple hundred years we'd see that people used to be SURROUNDED by death. You would slaughter animals, or watch them slaughtered in front of you. Your siblings would die at a young age from horrible shit that we cure now by accident. You might know dozens of people that died. Nowadays it's hard to relate to that level of tragedy around us, but it used to be common place and gave people a respect for the fragility of life.

In the end, though, I just want to blow a dude's head off in a way that makes me go "OH JESUS!!!!"

Blood is fine, mostly because excessive levels make things look more stylised than anything else. It's showing organs and detail that really gets me going. I was the guy who left the room whenever dissections were performed in science classes...

For example, 300 and Shaun of the Dead are not problems (the latter is only really a problem when you see the wrist wound and a little of Dylan Moran's fate), but Saw etc. is a problem.

I like it when it makes sense for it to be there. On the other hand, I don't like it that much when it's excessive. So anywhere from realistic amounts to just under gorefest.

Little to none.

It always makes me wonder (just as with oversexualization and insepid "romances") what could have been added to or enhanced with the actual gameplay if not for filling the B & B quota.

It won't stop me from playing a fun game (i.e. Bayonetta/Wolfenstein-Doom) but it does make me wonder how much more fun it could have been if it weren't so busy pandering to the lowest common denominator.

I liked W@Ws gore, so I guess realistic. I don't like blowing someone up with a grenade and having no gore :l

As much as the game can physically contain, i know it's immature but it amuses me.
