Imagine you're at a hospital, but you forgot to pay the premiums on your insurance because you were drunk or something.

Now, the disease/injury/life threatening illness you have will cost $XXXXXXXXX.

$XXXXXXXXX also happens to be the combined net worth of your entire family + extended family.

Would you let your family save you and become bankrupt? or will you simply choose to die?

Forcing your entire family into bankruptcy to save yourself would be selfish and cowardly.

I'd go out and cook meth instead.

None of those. I live in Canada. Any life threatening injuries/illnesses to me or my loved ones is free.

In the event that i actually have to pay for my care card i would have to make more then enough money that it likely wouldn't put me into debt. That and i would have to not pay for three or four months before they cut my service, along with three or four phone calls.

I think we'd make fine ill-as-all-hell business partners.

Id do it - Think of it this way: Your bankrupt, oh dear god no, dont tell me youll actually have to do some work to make it all back! Not that youll need it now that you can apply for disability...

Technically, they are still paying for it, and so is everyone else. Free healthcare isn't born in a vacuum, it takes taxes, and a lot of them.

But that aside, it would be a terribly selfish choice to burden my family like that. If they were so inclined to make that sacrifice, thinking it was for the best, great, I'm not one to turn down that kind of awesomeness, but it's not something I'd force onto them.

I'd let myself die - forcing my whole family to go bankrupt to save someone who's going to die anyway (of old age or of sickness) is just selfish, and things will be worse off and you'll end up in poverty wishing you'd just died in the first place.

And it would have been my fault for not paying insurance, anyway.

Good deal, I'll cook and you sell. Just keep your chili powder away from my meth.

Rather just die then put my family in the shit hole. Yea, they'd miss me and be up set I was gone but I'd feel like shit for taking all they had just so I could live. The guilt would be too much for me to take really. Lose one life to help many.
