I live Australia, our health care isn't fucked.

Hahahahaha.
with ya there budd!
Wooooo! Dodging the question.
Yeah. We may get expensive games, but at least we don't have to choose between games or visiting the hospital lol.
Our healthcare system and being able to legally drink when we're 18. That's pretty much all we Australians can brag about. Actually there may be a link between the two...

You know that even in America your extended family can't be held responsible for your debts and you can't be denied life-saving medical procedures, right? I'd just get the disease treated and then declare bankruptcy.

I love how people pretend America doesn't already have socialized medicine. What a silly notion.

Technically, they are still paying for it, and so is everyone else. Free healthcare isn't born in a vacuum, it takes taxes, and a lot of them.
Umm.. Der? I'm a low income tax payer, I get free health care. I don't really see your point.
Der nothing. It's pretty straightforward. It may seem free to you, low income or whatever, your healthcare is free on someone else's bill. Someone somewhere is paying for it. Or a few thousand someones. Some of us are low income (ahem) and foot our own bills. Enjoy your free ride.

When you walk into a hospital and pick up a $5000 tab for a 45 minute procedure, get back to me. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't jealous.

I don't see this at all. I mean, okay if my being alive results in my entire extended family being damned and untouchable - then there's a discussion. But if my being alive simply takes away their savings? There's still work to be done. There's still money to be made.

Ultimately, you can always get back on track. Mine is a family of academics, and the family business wouldn't die just because we might have to sell our flat and live someplace else for a while. On the contrary; I fully believe my passing away would be more devastating to their professional lives than the loss of monetary security, just like their passing away would throw me off track for a while - a long while enough, likely, to mess up my studies right now.

Perhaps if you live in a society where your personal wealth is more indicative of your fortunes overall, is this a greater issue. Perhaps if I, or any younger siblings, had a "college fund" would I be more hesitant. But in a society where my education, my work and my general well-being has very little to do with the wealth I've accrued, I'm more at liberty to live.

Free ride? You do know what Income tax is right? Losing $150 of each paycheck.

Low income means i make less the 24k a year. Might wanna fact check before accusing me of having a free ride.

By free, I mean i walk into the hospital and walk out without spending a dime. I pay into my government twice a month off the top of each of my checks.

The point was that i never have to worry about the OP statement because i live in a country where I pay income tax so i never have to choose between X amount of dollars and people dying.

I lose 16% of $800 every two weeks. That's $128 off every check.
That's ~$18,000 a year for income.

I pay all my own healthcare costs. On TOP of my income/wage tax.

Still want to pretend you're getting the shaft, or that you pay your own way?

Bullshit. The system here is fucked. Count yourself lucky that you can pretend you pay for what your get. I for one continue to wonder where the hell all my income tax goes.

ed-Oh, wait. I remember. I pay for the healthcare of everyone who will be dead in 5-15 years. Ain't Social Security great?
You think I'm giving you shit. I'm more ranting about the shitty state of affairs this side of the parallel.

Before you accuse someone of needing to fact-check, do some of your own.

edit again-- not to mention that in just a couple years, they'll begin to fine my ass for even even more of my income for not being able to afford health insurance. That's even more off of each paycheck. Can't afford to have it, can't afford not to have it.

Want to go another round?

Yeeaah, no. Fuck it. I'm not going to pay someone's greed. Go on ahead, let the assholes burn for letting me die, simply because they wanted some bullshit amount of money for just a treatment, not even the real fucking cure.

Besides, living a life in debt is about the equivalent to living as a slave. Sure your alive, but you don't get to experience the things that living is. So if I'm going to live, only to be ass-raped by the bank, eat breadcrumbs, develop a severe case of anorexia, and work in a sweatshop for the rest of my life, I'd much rather die. At least they have free health care in the afterlife.

I said i was getting the shaft?

Really? Where?

Do i pay my own way? Why yes! I have to pay my rent, food, and any other bills that come my way. On top of that i have to mail a check off every month to make sure things like Dental and Medication and Glasses and hospital stays don't cost me an arm and a leg. I also lose between 150-200 a paycheck depending on how much overtime i worked. Am i complaining about any of that? No. I pay that so i don't have to pay for hospital visits among other things.

In Canada part of our Income tax is used so we don't have to pay hospitals. That's how our system works. You think that means we don't pay our own why, that's great, you don't have to live here. You can feel proud you live in a country where visiting a doctor means not buying food for a month.

Seriously, get off your fucking high horse. I live in a place where my tax dollars pays for health care. You don't. That's life.

I have nothing to fact check because i wasn't trying to call you a parasite for no fucking reason outside of i live in a Country that has a better system in place.

Was i telling you how you should live?

Did i comment on your country? No.

You accused me of being carried by my government on no other grounds then that's how it works in your country. Your pissed at your country? That's fine. I'm not pissed at my own, so don't piss on me because you have a raw deal.

You're the one riding a high-horse, if you paid attention for half a paragraph you'd realize I'm griping about how much I pay out each month in tax, while still expected to pay out in addition to that to pay for my own health.

At ludicrous prices with no itemization or explanation for why I have to pay $5000 for a simple 45 minute OP procedure. I just get a bill for an obscene amount of cash, which, when I can't afford to pay it, gets transferred to a private bank that instantly sets up a loan without my approval at 13% interest and starts bugging me for my first payment.

Criminy. Look. I'm actually complaining about how fucked shit is here. Get over yourself and your desire to plug your brilliant system and READ.

FFS.

ed- also, I'm kinda buzzed and edited a lot. Go back and read some more. Maybe we'll find some clarity here.
ed again- also realize I pay out almost $130 off of each paycheck to apparently pay for a crumbling infrastructure that never gets fixed, and the healthcare of everyone over the age of 60. I wonder what the Hell I pay for, and why there's nothing to show for it.

If I kept my income and paid no taxes like you seem to believe I do, then there'd be no problem. I'd really have nothing to complain about. But I pay for a lot of crap that is incredibly difficult to actually identify. I pay into a Social Security system with every check, and get reminded all along that the SS system will likely be bankrupt by the time I retire, and will not get to enjoy any of these 'benefits' I apparently pay for. And then, I am can also be expected to pay out additional income tax at the end of every year to pay for god knows what.

Bullets?

Yeah... because NONE of that could be interpreted as "Your a fucking leech on your governement!" or a personal attack in ANY way. Geeze.

Maybe you need to learn to read for fucks sake. Never have i tried even jokingly to say i have it tough. I am saying that i have it GOOD where i live. I never once said i had it tough. YOUR the one who keeps trying to make it seem like I am crying about how hard it is to live here and at the same time trying to make it seem like i sit on my ass while the government hands me buckets of money.

You have it tougher then me. That sucks. I never ONCE tried to tell you otherwise. Not for a second. All i said was i pay taxes and those taxes pay hospital bills here and that doesn't make me a leech because that's how our system works up here. My bill's aren't on someone else's money. My bills are on everyone's money just as everyone's bills are on mine.

End of fucking list.

Edit: I never said you didn't pay taxes, it just seemed like you didn't realize what my income tax goes to.

Yikes. At the end of it all, let's call it a misunderstanding.
This all began with my rather passive aggressive post highlighting the fact that nothing is free. We all pay for something.

There is no such thing as free healthcare. That's all I was originally driving at. Sorry for making it sound like I thought you had it so easy. That was far from the point. Somewhere along the way I got the impression that YOU thought I had it easy. Or something.

Moral of the story is, I think, taxes suck, but they suck a lot less when you at least know what they're paying for.

Peace?

Sorry for all the ranting. Booze and politics are a bad combination.

End of fucking list.

Christ.

Yeah, i have a feeling this is nothing more then a misunderstanding.

I know you guys get a really raw deal down south and I think its bullshit. My Buddy in the states never goes to the doctor, even for serious things, because he can't afford it. Which scares the crap out of me.

I know our health care isn't free. We all pay for it whether we use it or not. I think i took my Wife to the hospital once in the last two years because she fell and hit the back of her head so hard her nose started to bleed(yeah... that was fun trying to explain to nurses, i think I'm on a couple of marital abuse watch lists now -_-)

I guess this is a case of people taking offense to things that just weren't really clear.

Peace.

I live in England so it's free :p
This also, Haha!

But I'd choose to die rather then bankruptcy if I found myself in that situation, or have an affair with a millionaire.

I live in Britain, we have a national health service so this would never happen.

Wow it feels great to be able to say that. A little condescending sure, but I can live with it.

Why isn't there a "Yes. Health and being with your loved ones is the most important thing ever, and as long as one's healthy, one can start all over again"? Because that would be my option.

Pfft, Id say go bankrupt. Its not selfish to want to live. And you wonder why games always have either just really good or really bad. This is either a really noble, or not really noble situation, not a good or bad one. Besides, you only get one life, but you can have any amount of money.
The trouble is that it's not your money, so the family will be eating bread crusts and sleeping in a box for a while.
Either the family is loving and good, the kind youd want to sacrifice your life for, or they are not. So either they would not mind since they love you like a good family should, or they dont give a crap anyways, why should you?
Because I care about their well-being, and saving my own life is not worth potentially ruining all of theirs. Them not minding doesn't factor in.
Well they should also care about yours.

Irrelevant. My life is not worth every asset that my entire family owns. Yes, you can make more money, but losing a house, savings, and retirement means years and years and years of misery that it is entirely possible to never escape from.
