I will be buying my first bit of DLC at the end of this month (August 26, 2010 to be exact). I am getting the 'British Armed Forces' DLC for ArmA II: Operation Arrowhead. It looks amazing, and I have been wanting to see the someone other than the U.S. star in a war game. Don't get me wrong, I love my country, but seeing the same thing over and over again gets a little monotonous.

At only $9.99, how can I not buy it? It's so affordable!

I remember when DLC was on a disk, and was more than two minutes long. They were called expansion packs, and they didn't suck.

I like DLC, but I don't buy it unless it's a game I really enjoy, such as Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age.

the microsoft point system is rather annoying constantly having to buy another big drop of points if you're just a few points below what they need. So only big games (and sometimes I don't even buy it, such as map packs and some dragon age things)
The Only advantage the PSN has over XBL is that it uses an actual dollar amount instead of points. Though it has that same damn problem where you have to add a minimum of $5 to your wallet at any time.
I only buy DLC if it's for a game I really like and I've read reviews or something saying it's worth it. I hate the $10 for 'two new levels' bull shit! What happened to expansions?
If it's free I will download it without hesitation though.
The exception to this rule is RockBand 2 which I think my wife and I have downloaded something like $140 worth of songs over the last two years.

I never buy DLC. If the companies behind the game will not sell me the whole game at release I probably won't buy it. Thankfully a lot of what could be classified as DLC are released for free on PC. I will buy expansions and the like though.

You know they got rid of the expiry date on those codes.I only bought DA:O about a month ago and the code worked fine

I only buy DLC if it's for a game I really like.Even then I'll usually wait a while and get it when it's Deal of the Week on XBL because a lot of DLC is overpriced.I recently got the Return to Ostagar and Warden's Keep DLC for DA:O and tbh even at half price they were still too expensive for the content they offered
...Seriously? *facepalm* Oh wow, how I wish I'd read your post ten hours ago or so to save myself from spending that $15. *headdesk, headdesk, headdesk* Thanks for letting us Escapists know about this though, I really hope it'll help someone else from making the boneheaded decision I did.

Hee, I waited for the Dragon Age DLC to be Deal of the Week too! *high five* Why do you think Return to Ostagar and Warden's Keep were overpriced? What made you dissatisfied, was it the length of play versus the cost of it? Or did you just dislike it period? Have you tried the other DA:O DLC?

They were just too short tbh.Beat both of them in about an hour which to me is not value for money.Haven't tried any of the other DLC yet although I did buy Awakening on disc last week. Are the others any good?

I dont think I ever have, or probably will in the future. I did purchase the GOTY edition of fallout, im not sure that counts? I just simply like to play the games, anything other than my original purchase seems like a waste.

Too expensive considering the content.
Just a way to milk more money out of consumers.

I always view DLC as weak add-ons, or content that was intentionally striped from the original game to make more money. Either way, I'm not going to pay for it. They need to either make a full expansion and sell that as a physical copy, leave the content in, or offer the minor updates for free. I'm not going to let them nickle and dime me just because I like the game. Obviously the game wasn't that good if they needed to remove content so they could charge more.

I'm also becoming more and more happy waiting for the GotY editions coming out like for Oblivion and Fallout 3. I stupidly bought Oblivion, and so I had to buy all the expansions when they became available. Since I waited with Fallout, I can buy the GotY when I feel like it.

Haven't tried any of them yet: I lent a friend the game the second I beat it and haven't heard from her in three months. *shakes head* I'd love to hear what you think about Awakening when you play it, though!

Probably gonna start it tonight so I'll let you know.By all accounts there's anywhere from 10-15 hours of gameplay in it.Considering I paid ?15(half the price it costs on XBL) for it that already sounds like good value to me

I get DLC for games I love (gears of war 2, Mass effect 1&2, L4D2), and whenever I get extra points from when I get arcade games (which is once every month or 2), but I refuse to get anything from activision, they over price it. How are 5 maps equal to games like Limbo and Castle Crashers?

Yes:

Mass Effect II, because it's Mass Effect?

Borderlands, because it's more co-op madness, is actually worth it content wise & was in the Steam sales.

Just Cause II, because it was cheap.

No:

Dragon Age, doesn't use my character for most of it, seems far too disjointed, haven't even played Awakening yet.
Only some don't use your character for obvious reasons. Lienana's story (which is set in the past) and the darkspawn mod (which you play as a darkspawn so...). The rest you can import your characters.

I like good SP DLC but I tend to stay away from MP DLC.

The only time I buy DLC is when I think it sounds like a really cool addition to a game. And I don't think I have bought any DLC for a few years now. If it wasen't in the game in the first place then it's not important enough for me to buy. I don't like the idea of DLC. It sort of seems like game developers just keep stuff out of the game, so they can release it later and make more money.
