Well here's my summary for the games I play/played online.
TF2: every three or so games there'll be someone who's being obnoxious.
L4D: Every single goddamned game.
WoW: Obvious.
EVE Online: Very rarely.
LoL: Sometimes.
Garry's Mod: 85% of the time.
Battlefield 2: Sometimes.

Often, when I'm unofortunate enough to play a game that won't allow party support for whatever reason.

A recent incident in MAG comes to mind. The OIC spent much of the game being a general ass. Bragging about his leet skillz, trash talking his team, spout the occasional racist or homophobic remark and generally acting like a douchebag. The people on my squad (we did not know one another) eventually grew tired of it and decided that the only solution to the problem of his being an amazing dick to was to track him down and team kill him. Seemed fair given how much shit he was spouting about the 127 strangers in the game with him.

Not knowing what squad he was in, we spent the next 10 minutes trying to figure out where we should start looking. Eventually we tracked him down and shot him. The squad and indeed the team rejoiced. Meanwhile the jerk somehow thought we were the dicks and so he called in artillery on his own spawn, killing 15 or so team mates in the process.

Don't play much shooters, but as for WoW; I encounter them all the time.
Doing instances? Always someone in the group that has next to no patience, always pestering the tank with "Go!" even when someone is afk.
Just questing? Then the regular "Rawr! All the mobs are mine! You can't have any"-guy comes along.

Having a good flow when doing instances is awesome, but those that nags the tank if he just stands still for a few seconds really piss me off. What bothers me the most is that now with Cataclysm the instances are harder, yet those little naggers still believe an instance should take 10 minutes tops.
Then we got the retards that do quests in the same area as you. It's an MMO, so there's always a few players at your level near by. If I see someone else in my area I move in another direction. A lot of other people do so as well, but pretty often you come across that one paladin or death knight that can't share. He starts pulling every mob in the area and then swipes those that you are clearly moving towards.

I hate them.

Everytime I play "Five" in call of Duty: Black Ops. Seriously I've only ever met one person who didn't go around stealing everyone's points in the first few rounds and who actually knew what to do during a thief round instead of just standing around thinking "WTF" is going on.

On PC its very rare for me to come across annoying people online, on PS3 I dont usually go online, but when I do no fucker has a mic, so its not a problem. On Xbox its like a nursery (on CoD anyway) so it can be very annoying. I had my worse experience on XBL yesterday, I was in a match with some mates and there was a guy using a lag switch (Most frustrating thing EVER) and they were a load of little kids. One of the little shits actually said "Your mum has got cancer". Now its one thing to say "Your a nob head hahahaa" what he said is another thing, you just dont got there right?

Little education and parental deprived kids need to gtfo XBL. Or parents need to be responsible parents, doesnt happen much these days... *Sigh*

Well... Not really, but I play on PSN =D Haha^^ No but there isn't that many =) I mute people, but that's mostly because I find any speaking in mics annoying unless they have a funny accent, it's annoying when it's some kid, and if you own him online, then he gets mad, and actually succeeds to kill me, he goes on and on "OH YEAH SUCK IT YOU *****!"... THAT'S annoying...

Other than that, most often, it's actually your own fault if someone gets annoying.
Yea, I was afraid ps3 would have more dbags because you don't have to pay for it.
I hardly ever ran into anyone annoying until my wife brought home Blops.
There are some annoying people on there. And I'm not even talking about the griefers (chopper spamers & those guys who don't take the objective because they outmatch everyone and want to up their k/d ratio). I'm talking about the morons who fee like they need to serenade us with some horrible song or another. It's never a good song.
How come everyone with a mic is southern?
It's a conspiracy! D:

I hardly ever encounter annoying people on x-box live because I am usually in a party with friends when I play games online. The rare times I do play multiplayer when not in a party I tend to mute everyone in the lobby before the game starts.

When I play WoW I do run into annoying people most of the time when I am in a city. I always make sure to report them though and put them on my ignore list.

Rarely, mostly because I don't play the big-name online multiplayer games and instead go for more friendly online multiplayer engine-mod communities.

Quite often, it seems. They're more common in some games than others, but from what I've seen there's more 'douches' than likable people, with neutral players being the majority.

They've stopped me from playing multiplayer before, and made me leave WoW shortly after rejoining it (seriously, what happened to good etiquette in these games?). Now I mostly play only on servers I trust, or with friends. The social aspect of multiplayer seemed worth it years ago, but not so much anymore I'm afraid.

Depends on the game, if its something like CoD then irritating people are like dogshit - everywhere.
Where the fuck do you live if there's dog shit everywhere? Sucks to be you.

OT: Rarely, and I play a lot of halo, counterstrike, quake, modern warfare and blackops.

When I do, I mute them and ignore them. DIFFICULT CONCEPT.
1. Its a metaphor.
2. I mute people as well, it still doesn't make them any less of a irritating prick.
