I tend to read when I travel, be it a bus trip to a different state, or a subway ride into the city...so as often as I travel. Mostly read sci-fi or fantasy books, but I'm starting to catch up on classics I've missed. Usually I end up reading several books at once; right now I've got 1984, Ender's Game, Ivanhoe and a collection of Lovecraft on my plate.

It mostly depends on what book I'm reading and how interested I am in it...

If I find a really good book I'll finish it in just a few days...

Once a week.
I'm a great historical fiction fan myself, writers like Bernard Cornwell or Conn Iggulden.
I'm also reading Stephen King's 'The Stand' at the moment, which I can't get enough of.

I think books are on the level with games with which you connect to the characters, unlike most films.
Edit: And by once a week I mean one book a week, haha.

During the school year it's probably one a month, but in the summer when I have time it's multiple books a week. I have a really bad habit of starting a new book before I finished the first one so I'm currently in the middle of Good Omens, Atlas Shrugged and Let The Right One In.

I always have a book open, it's always been that way, don't think I could go without it. Try to get in a reading every day. I'm reading Mort, from the Discworld series right now.

I have a weak spot for classic fantasy, Lord of the Rings, the Never-ending story etc., Stephen King, and (fictional) history ala Robin Hood and King Arthur - but my favourite by far is "The Tao Of Pooh", it's lovely, I always smile all the way through. Winnie the Pooh mixed with ancient philosophy, that has to be good, right? :)

I should take the time to requote some old and shocking statistics about reading in the UK.

A third of people will never buy a book in their life time.
Another third will only buy on average one per year.
That's not shocking at all, considering the highest selling books over the past few years have been celebrity autobiographies. It's insane, considering some of them are barely past 20 and they have two or THREE out.

When I hear someone doesn't read (or only reads rags like Heat or Grazia), they always think I'm patronizing them when I say they should; but reading a book is far more enriching than reading which C-lister fucked some guy or which handbags are unacceptable this season...

While I don't read a book a week, I do read pretty much everyday. Mostly fantasy stuff. I'm currently reading A Clash of Kings from the Song of Ice and Fire series.

Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz.
Favourites have to be Pratchett, Iain Banks (and of course Iain M Banks) and Douglas Adams.

I urge everyone to read all the books written by these authors, they really are superlative :) Though as you're a member of this site it is highly likely you already have.
I've read every Discworld book and most of Pratchett's other stuff. As for Adams, I've read all 5 parts of the Hitchiker 'Trilogy'. Still need to check out Iain Banks.

reading for me is a breakfast activity but only when I have collage, reading tends to reboot my mind readying it for a day of technical (complex words) talks

I can read three in a week if I get relative silence.
If it's a noisy out, I usually don't get more than a few pages.

I read two books a week on average, sometimes more or less - depending on their length and how busy I am.

I read a lot unless sleep takes presedence(No spellcheck so that very well be mispelled.) I usually read sci-fi or fantasy, my favorite being the Black Company series.

Currently I'm reading the Necronomicon, most of the greatest tales by H.P. Lovecraft. 'Tis a wonderful read.
The Black Company Series was also one of my favorites.

I read when I can, but I feel as if I have been to busy recently to actually sit down and read something not assigned by my school. I want to reread Hitch Hikers Guide to the galaxy and read Catch 22.

I read everyday, with almost 2 per week. I just read Odd Thomas and Forever Odd, have Odd Hours (4th in series) checked out, and am still waiting for the 3rd one to come in at the library, Brother Odd. I have been on a Koontz spree lately. I have already read the first two, but read them again because I like reading things in order when it comes to series. Just finished The Cleric Quintet, by R. A. Salvatore, in about a week, though technically it's 5 books in one. I love to read, and need more shelving for books.

I used to go through 2-3 books a week, but since going to uni (if you don't count text books) I barely read at all and maybe get through one a month if I'm lucky.

Shame Adams died before he could write the sixth :( his Dirk Gently series is worth a look, if not up to the Hitch-hikers guide.

And yeah, as for Banks his sci-fi is a bit more...normal? I have read "The Bridge" by him three times and still have no clue what is going on... but his culture series really is excellent, alot of imagination, variety and colour.

Please tell me this isn't true :*( It will make me sad.
