I know it isn't ideal spacing but I specifically wanted 1-12 (preteen) and 13-17 (teen) age groups separate from any adult categories. I wasn't too worried about collecting a definitive statistical average. I haven't even sat down and worked it out yet.theklng said:

I don't see as much immature behavior on this site (maybe because I don't visit many threads), but other forums that I've been to are way worse. At least most people here spell correctly.

1) Age does not necessarily dictate intelligence and maturity, any more than the country of your birth dictates your religion or primary language. However when dealing with statistics you are talking about significant numbers rather than absolutes. Most creatures on this planet fly (because most creatures are insects), but that doesn't mean I expect all my friends to.
2) People visit a thread when it is busy. Threads are busy when people like yourself post things to them, for whatever reason. Troll posting in a normal thread is just egocentric rudeness. In a poll thread however it is a perfectly legitimate tactic. I slightly overstated the case because I wanted to stir some interest. I have qualified it since because I didn't really want to cause offence.
3) Age does confer one thing that children cannot have: Experience. Every 40 year old in the world cringes at the memory of things they said or did when they were 20. Every 60 year old does so about when they were 40. You don't have the perspective to imagine what it's like to be mature when you haven't lived, any more than you can imagine what it's like to be a squirrel.
The things that I find ugly on this site are the religious and political opinions that are here expressed. Such things are not moderated because they are widely held. I wanted to know if they were representative of the adult population (mainly of the US) or just the teenage one. The fact that it's just the teenage one reassures me a little that you perhaps have time to change your mind and not see things in such a black and white way.
And for the record, I think there is a little too much moderation on this site.
