Hey guys, I'm [name redacted] and I think I'm starting to realize I have a problem with privacy.

For example, I use (different) fake names on every website I join, I use the strictest privacy settings on Facebook (and I considered deleting my account), my parents have no idea who I hang out with, I delete text messages as soon as I get/send them, if you ask me what I'm doing or where I am, I'll always say "nothing much" or "nowhere important", and I hardly tell my friends anything personal about myself.

It's not like I have anything to hide or I'm some conspiracy nut, I just really, really hate the idea of other people in my business. I even got mad at my gf because she'd talk to her friends about us.

Does anyone else have this problem or is it just me? How private of a person are you? Is there anyone you can confide in, and if so, who?

EDIT: And my poll got eaten.... -________-

I don't have serious concerns about privacy. But I do get my panties in a bunch when it comes to government-controlled files, even though all the files would say about me is "model citizen, nonsubversive."

While I do not go out of my way to hide my name, likes and dislikes, I do not always tell people something that could really identify me and tell them where I live.

I don't really care because instinct protects me from telling people things I don't want them to know.

Yep I have major issues with privacy. To the point that for most of my school years my parents and my best friends didn't know who my girlfriends were or even that I had one. I also refuse being affectionate in public.

This all goes out the window once I'm on the internet.

I have no problem with privacy, I'm generally an open person although I don't like to go ahead and tell people everything about me. I'll admit that there are some topics that I won't go into, but I have no real reason to hide my history or parts of my personality/lifestyle.

There are certain things I don't want my real life friends to see, but I still use the same name for everything online. I just don't tell them about it.

I like my privacy but if you dig enough I'm sure you could find out who I am. I don't care too much if someone knows tbh

I'm kinda wierd about this, I like having an array of aliases, but if somebody asks my name I'll generally tell it. Not that anyone remembers afterwards.

Well I do like to have control over how much of my personal information people have. It's for this reason I reluctant to join Facebook.

I'm moderately private in that I don't draw attention to myself and what I'm doing, but I've really got nothing that I'm hiding, so if someone wants to know what I'm up to I'll tell them. I don't really give them any unnecessary details, though. I'm fine with giving out my name, but my privacy setting are usually restricted to friends.

I am not comfortable about having pictures of myself on the internet. I just do think I look good in pictures...

This, I've come to realise that your average Joe on the Internet, the wacko on the other side of the world and heck even the government doesn't really give a shit about what we get up to online as long as we stay within the law. Not that'll I divulge everything about myself in public instantly but you could build a very accurate picture of myself by going through my posts on this site alone including location, what I look like and first name (and possibly surname), let alone YouTube and Facebook.

Somewhere medium. Ok sure my profile on here is abit open however I refuse to mention my surname and my hometown. I have no intention to link my facebook page onto here so that my friends don't see me on here.

Well, if someone is willing to spend entire days on the internet searching down my various accounts on things, then they know me well enough for me not to worry. I have a few fake identities I use, but there are chokepoints. If someone in real life knew this Escapist account was mine, they could track down all sorts of things. Like a half-finished Mass Effect self-insert.

I try and keep as much about myself as unknown as possible via the internet. And even when its just person to person, I don't tend to tell people what's happening in my life unless they ask or if its a dire situation that I need to talk to someone about. Before I got Facebook, most people didn't even know I was in a relationship unless they asked or saw me holding someone's hand.

I really don't care about my privacy. I used to be a very private person, and I used to hide myself a lot, but now, I don't care. Example, my uncommon last name is in my screen name. I think that others lack of knowledge about me almost makes privacy a myth. I am who I am, and in person I can't hide it, and on the internet, it doesn't matter. That isn't to say I'm not secretive. I do have secrets and I don't share them, and I keep others well, but they are usually a special occasion.

I never give away my real name or birth date or anyting relly if it is not absolutely necessary. If I google my name I get no responses, I like it.
